Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 4680
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that when Abdullah bin Ubay, the leader of the hypocrites, died, his son, who was a sincere Muslim, came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Give me your shirt so that I may shroud him in it, and lead his funeral prayer and ask Allah for His forgiveness." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave him his shirt and said, "Inform me when it is time for the funeral." When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came forward to lead the prayer, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Prophet of Allah! Has Allah not forbidden you from offering the funeral prayer of the hypocrites?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied, "I have been given the choice to pray for him or not." So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) offered his funeral prayer. Afterwards, Allah, the Exalted, revealed the verse forbidding the offering of funeral prayers for the hypocrites, and so it was abandoned thereafter.

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ جب رئیس المنافقین عبداللہ بن ابی مر گیا، تو اس کے صاحبزادے ”جو مخلص مسلمان تھے“ نبی کریم ﷺ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوئے اور کہنے لگے، یا رسول اللہ! مجھے اپنی قمیض عطاء فرمائیے تاکہ میں اس میں اسے کفن دوں اس کی نماز جنازہ بھی پڑھایئے اور اللہ سے بخشش بھی طلب کیجئے، نبی کریم ﷺ نے انہیں اپنی قمیض دے دی اور فرمایا کہ جنازے کے وقت مجھے اطلاع دینا جب نبی کریم ﷺ نماز پڑھانے کے لئے آگے بڑھے تو سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے عرض کیا کہ اللہ نے آپ کو منافقین کی نماز جنازہ پڑھانے سے روکا ہے، نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”مجھے دو باتوں کا اختیار ہے استغفار کر نے یا نہ کر نے کا۔“ چنانچہ نبی کریم ﷺ نے اس کی نماز جنازہ پڑھائی، بعد میں اللہ تعالیٰ نے یہ حکم نازل فرما دیا کہ ان میں سے جو مر جائے اس کی نماز جنازہ کبھی نہ پڑھائیں چنانچہ اس کے بعد ان کی نماز جنازہ متروک ہو گئی۔
Sayyidna Ibn Umar Radi Allahu Anhuma se marvi hai ki jab raees ul munafiqeen Abdullah bin Ubay mar gaya, tou is ke sahibzaade ”jo mukhlis musalman thay“ Nabi Kareem ﷺ ki khidmat mein hazir huye aur kehne lage, Ya Rasulullah! mujhe apni qameez ata farmaye taake mein is mein ise kafan dun is ki namaz janaza bhi parhayiye aur Allah se bakhshish bhi talab kijiye, Nabi Kareem ﷺ ne unhein apni qameez de di aur farmaya ki janaze ke waqt mujhe ittila dena jab Nabi Kareem ﷺ namaz parhane ke liye aage barhe tou Sayyidna Umar Radi Allahu Anhu ne arz kiya ki Allah ne aap ko munafiqeen ki namaz janaza parhane se roka hai, Nabi Kareem ﷺ ne farmaya: ”mujhe do baaton ka ikhtiyar hai istighfar kar ne ya na kar ne ka“ Chunancha Nabi Kareem ﷺ ne is ki namaz janaza parhayi, baad mein Allah Ta'ala ne yeh hukum nazil farma diya ki in mein se jo mar jaye us ki namaz janaza kabhi na parhayen chunancha is ke baad in ki namaz janaza matrook ho gayi.
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنِي نَافِعٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ: لَمَّا مَاتَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أُبَيٍّ، جَاءَ ابْنُهُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، أَعْطِنِي قَمِيصَكَ حَتَّى أُكَفِّنَهُ فِيهِ، وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِ، وَاسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُ، فَأَعْطَاهُ قَمِيصَهُ، وَقَالَ:" آذِنِّي بِهِ"، فَلَمَّا ذَهَبَ لِيُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهِ، قَالَ يَعْنِي عُمَرَ: قَدْ نَهَاكَ اللَّهُ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى الْمُنَافِقِينَ، فَقَالَ:" أَنَا بَيْنَ خِيرَتَيْنِ اسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ أَوْ لا تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ سورة التوبة آية 80 فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى: وَلا تُصَلِّ عَلَى أَحَدٍ مِنْهُمْ مَاتَ أَبَدًا سورة التوبة آية 84 قَالَ: فَتُرِكَتْ الصَّلَاةُ عَلَيْهِمْ".
