Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 4761
Hafs bin Asim said that once we were traveling with Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), we offered the obligatory prayer. In the meantime, Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) noticed one of his sons offering voluntary prayers. Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I have travelled and prayed with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and with the Rightly Guided Caliphs, but none of them ever prayed any voluntary prayers before or after the obligatory prayers. Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) further said: If I were to offer voluntary prayers, I would not be able to complete my obligatory prayers (meaning he would shorten them due to travel).

حفص بن عاصم کہتے ہیں کہ ایک مرتبہ ہم لوگ سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کے ساتھ سفر پر نکلے، ہم نے فرض نماز پڑھی، اتنی دیر میں سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کی نظر اپنے کسی بیٹے پر پڑی جو نوافل ادا کر رہا تھا، سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے فرمایا کہ میں نے نبی کریم ﷺ کے ساتھ اور خلفاء ثلاثہ کے ساتھ سفر میں نماز پڑھی ہے لیکن یہ سب فرائض سے پہلے کوئی نماز پڑھتے تھے اور نہ بعد میں سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے مزید فرمایا کہ اگر میں نفل پڑھتا تو اپنی فرض نماز مکمل نہ کر لیتا (قصرکیوں کرتا؟)۔
Hafs bin Asim kahte hain ke ek martaba hum log Sayyiduna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ke sath safar per nikle, hum ne farz namaz parhi, itni der mein Sayyiduna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ki nazar apne kisi bete par pari jo nawafil ada kar raha tha, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ne farmaya ke maine Nabi Kareem SallAllahu Alaihi Wasallam ke sath aur Khulafa e Salasa ke sath safar mein namaz parhi hai lekin ye sab faraiz se pehle koi namaz parhte thay aur na bad mein Sayyiduna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ne mazeed farmaya ke agar mein nafl parhta to apni farz namaz mukammal na kar leta (Qasr kyun karta?)
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُمَا، قَالَ: خَرَجْنَا مَعَ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، فَصَلَّيْنَا الْفَرِيضَةَ، فَرَأَى بَعْضَ وَلَدِهِ يَتَطَوَّعُ، فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ: " صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ وَعُثْمَانَ فِي السَّفَرِ، فَلَمْ يُصَلُّوا قَبْلَهَا وَلَا بَعْدَهَا"، قَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ: وَلَوْ تَطَوَّعْتُ، لَأَتْمَمْت.
