Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 4815
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyidna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying: The month is sometimes this much, this much, and this much. On the third time, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) closed one of his ten fingers (29 days).

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ نبی کریم ﷺ کو یہ فرماتے ہوئے سنا ہے کہ مہینہ بعض اوقات اتنا، اتنا اور اتنا بھی ہوتا ہے۔ تیسری مرتبہ آپ ﷺ نے دس انگلیوں میں سے ایک انگوٹھا بند کر لیا (٢٩ دن)۔
Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko ye farmate huye suna hai ki mahina baaz auqat itna itna aur itna bhi hota hai teesri martaba aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne das ungliyon mein se ek ungootha band kar liya 29 din.
حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ:" الشَّهْرُ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا، وَقَبَضَ إِبْهَامَهُ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ".
