Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 4836
Once, while on his way to Makkah, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) bought a slave girl. He took her with him for Hajj. There, he searched for shoes but couldn't find any, so he cut off the bottom of his socks and made her wear them. (Ibn Ishaq said that I mentioned this incident to Imam Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him). He said that initially, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to do this. Then, Safiyyah bint Abi Ubayd narrated to him the hadith of Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to permit women to wear socks.

ایک مرتبہ سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے مکہ مکرمہ کے راستے میں کوئی باندی خریدی اسے اپنے ساتھ حج پر لے گئے وہاں جوتی تلاش کی لیکن مل نہ سکی انہوں نے موزے نیچے سے کاٹ کر ہی اسے پہنا دیئے) ابن اسحاق کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے امام زہری رحمہ اللہ سے یہ بات ذکر کی تو انہوں نے فرمایا کہ پہلے سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما اسی طرح کرتے تھے پھر صفیہ بنت ابی عبید نے انہیں سیدہ عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہ کی یہ حدیث سنائی کہ نبی کریم ﷺ خواتین کو موزے پہننے کی رخصت دے دیا کرتے تھے۔

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ: وَذَكَرْتُ لِابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي سَالِمٌ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ قَدْ كَانَ يَصْنَعُ ذَاكَ، ثُمَّ حَدَّثَتْهُ صَفِيَّةُ بِنْتُ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ حَدَّثَتْهَا، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ" يُرَخِّصُ لِلنِّسَاءِ فِي الْخُفَّيْنِ".
