Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 5137
Narrated by Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "We are an unlettered nation, we do not know calculation, the month is sometimes this much, this much and this much." The third time, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) closed his thumb, meaning 29.

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”ہم امی امت ہیں، حساب کتاب نہیں جانتے، بعض اوقات مہینہ اتنا، اتنا اور اتنا ہوتا ہے۔ تیسری مرتبہ آپ ﷺ نے انگوٹھا بند کر لیا یعنی ٢٩ کا۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Hum ummi ummat hain, hisab kitab nahin jante, baz auqat mahina itna, itna aur itna hota hai. Teesri martaba aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne ungotha band kar liya yani 29 ka.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ يَعْنِي الْأَزْرَقَ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ:" إِنَّا أُمَّةٌ أُمِّيَّةٌ، لَا نَكْتُبُ وَلَا نَحْسُبُ، الشَّهْرُ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا" حَتَّى ذَكَرَ تِسْعًا وَعِشْرِينَ، قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ: وَطَبَّقَ يَدَيْهِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ، وَحَبَسَ إِبْهَامَهُ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ.
