Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 5274
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyidina Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “There is a tree whose leaves do not fall and it is like a Muslim. Tell me which tree is that?” The minds of the people went towards different trees of the forest. It came to my mind that it could be the date palm tree. After a while, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) himself said that it is the date palm tree. I mentioned this matter to Sayyidina Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), so he said: "Your speaking at that moment was more beloved to me than such and such a thing."

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”ایک درخت ہے جس کے پتے نہیں جھڑتے اور وہ مسلمان کی طرح ہوتا ہے بتاؤ وہ کون سا درخت ہے؟ لوگوں کے ذہن میں جنگل کے مختلف درختوں کی طرف گئے، میرے دل میں خیال آیا کہ وہ کھجور کا درخت ہو سکتا ہے، تھوڑی دیر بعد نبی ﷺ نے خود ہی فرمایا وہ کھجور کا درخت ہے، میں نے سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ سے اس بات کا تذکرہ کیا، تو انہوں نے فرمایا: اس موقع پر تمہارا بولنا میرے نزدیک فلاں فلاں چیز سے بھی زیادہ پسندیدہ تھا۔“
Sayyida Ibn Umar RA se marvi hai keh aik martaba Nabi SAW ne farmaya: “Aik darakht hai jis ke pattay nahi jharte aur wo musalman ki tarah hota hai batao wo kon sa darakht hai? Logon ke zehan mein jungle ke mukhtalif darakhton ki taraf gaye, mere dil mein khayal aaya keh wo khajoor ka darakht ho sakta hai, thodi der baad Nabi SAW ne khud hi farmaya wo khajoor ka darakht hai, maine Sayyida Umar RA se is baat ka tazkira kiya, to unhon ne farmaya: Is mauqa par tumhara bolna mere nazdeek flan flan cheez se bhi zyada pasandida tha.”
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ:" مَا شَجَرَةٌ لَا يَسْقُطُ وَرَقُهَا، وَهِيَ مِثْلُ الْمُؤْمِنِ؟"، أَوْ قَالَ:" الْمُسْلِمِ؟"، قَالَ: فَوَقَعَ النَّاسُ فِي شَجَرِ الْبَوَادِي، قَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ: وَوَقَعَ فِي نَفْسِي أَنَّهَا النَّخْلَةُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" هِيَ النَّخْلَةُ"، قَالَ: فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِعُمَرَ، فَقَالَ: لَأَنْ تَكُونَ قُلْتَهَا، كَانَ أَحَبَّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ كَذَا وَكَذَا.
