Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 5502
Once, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) instructed a person that when you go to your bed, you should say this supplication: "O Allah! You have created me, and You will cause me to die. My life and death are for You. If You give me life, then protect me, and if You give me death, then forgive me. O Allah! I ask You for well-being." The person asked, "Did you hear this from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him)?" He replied, "From the one who is better than Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), meaning the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)."

ایک مرتبہ سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے ایک شخص کو حکم دیا کہ جب اپنے بستر پر آیا کرو تو یہ دعاء کیا کرو کہ اے اللہ! تو نے مجھے پیدا کیا ہے، تو ہی مجھے موت دے گا، میرا مرناجینا بھی تیرے لئے ہے، اگر تو مجھے زندگی دے تو اس کی حفاظت بھی فرما اور اگر موت دے تو مغفرت بھی فرما اے اللہ میں تجھ سے عافیت کی درخواست کرتا ہوں، اس شخص نے پوچھا کہ یہ بات آپ نے سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ سے سنی ہے؟ انہوں نے جواب دیا کہ اس ذات سے جو سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ سے بھی بہتر تھی یعنی نبی ﷺ سے۔
Ek martaba Sayyidina Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ne ek shakhs ko hukm diya keh jab apne bistar par aya karo to yeh dua kiya karo keh aye Allah! Tu ne mujhe paida kiya hai, tu hi mujhe maut dega, mera marna jeena bhi tere liye hai, agar tu mujhe zindagi de to is ki hifazat bhi farma aur agar maut de to magfirat bhi farma aye Allah main tujh se afiyat ki darkhwast karta hun, is shakhs ne pucha keh yeh baat aap ne Sayyidina Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se suni hai? Unhon ne jawab diya keh is zaat se jo Sayyidina Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se bhi behtar thi yani Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) se.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّهُ أَمَرَ رَجُلًا إِذَا أَخَذَ مَضْجَعَهُ، قَالَ:" اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ خَلَقْتَ نَفْسِي، وَأَنْتَ تَوَفَّاهَا، لَكَ مَمَاتُهَا وَمَحْيَاهَا، إِنْ أَحْيَيْتَهَا فَاحْفَظْهَا، وَإِنْ أَمَتَّهَا فَاغْفِرْ لَهَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَسْأَلُكَ الْعَافِيَةَ"، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: سَمِعْتَ هَذَا مِنْ عُمَرَ؟ فَقَالَ: ممِنْ خَيْرٍ مِنْ عُمَرَ، مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
