Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 6074
Sa'd bin 'Ubaidah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) heard a man saying that tonight would be the middle of the month. Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "How do you know that it is the middle of the month? Rather, say that it is the fifteenth. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying that sometimes the month is so and so, and so and so," and on the third time, the narrator closed the finger that signifies the number twenty-nine."

سعد بن عبیدہ رحمہ اللہ کہتے ہیں کہ سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے ایک آدمی کو یہ کہتے ہوئے سنا کہ آج رات مہینے کا نصف ہو گا سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے فرمایا: تمہیں کیسے پتہ چلا کہ یہ مہینہ کا نصف ہے بلکہ یوں کہو کہ پندرہ تاریخ ہے میں نے نبی ﷺ کو یہ فرماتے ہوئے سنا ہے کہ کبھی مہینہ اتنا، اتنا اور اتنا بھی ہوتا ہے تیسرے مرتبہ راوی نے اس انگلی کو بند کر لیا جو پچاس کے عدد کی نشاندہی کر تی ہے۔
Sadd bin Ubaida rehmatullah alaih kehte hain ke Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ne ek aadmi ko yeh kehte huye suna ke aaj raat mahine ka nisaaf ho ga Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ne farmaya: tumhen kaise pata chala ke yeh mahine ka nisaaf hai balke yun kaho ke pandhra tareekh hai maine Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko yeh farmate huye suna hai ke kabhi mahina itna itna aur itna bhi hota hai teesre martaba raavi ne is ungli ko band kar liya jo pachas ke adad ki nishandai karti hai.
حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ , سَمِعَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ رَجُلًا , يَقُولُ: اللَّيْلَةَ النِّصْفُ، فَقَالَ: وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ أَنَّهَا النِّصْفُ؟ بَلْ، خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , يَقُولُ:" الشَّهْرُ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا" , وَضَمَّ أَبُو خَالِدٍ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ خَمْسِينَ.
