Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 6243
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to take an oath of allegiance on the condition of listening and obeying (his commands), to the best of their ability (that you will listen and obey as much as possible).

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ نبی کریم ﷺ بات سننے اور اطاعت کر نے کی شرط پر بیعت لیا کرتے تھے کہ حسب استطاعت (جہاں تک ممکن ہو گا تم بات سنو گے اور مانو گے)
Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) baat sun'ne aur ita'at karne ki shart par bai'at liya karte the ki hasb-e-istita'at (jahan tak mumkin hoga tum baat sunoge aur manoge).
حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ , يَقُولُ: كُنَّا إِذَا بَايَعْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ يُلَقِّنُنَا هُوَ" فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ".
