Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 8092
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked his companions (may Allah be pleased with them), "Who among yourselves do you consider a martyr?" The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) replied, "The one who is killed fighting in the way of Allah." The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "In that case, the number of martyrs in my Ummah would be very few. Being killed in the way of Allah is martyrdom, dying from a stomach ailment is martyrdom, dying by drowning is martyrdom, dying from the plague is martyrdom, and a woman dying during childbirth is also martyrdom."

حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ نبی کریم ﷺ نے ایک مرتبہ صحابہ کرام رضی اللہ عنہ سے پوچھا کہ تم لوگ اپنے درمیان شہید کسے سمجھتے ہو؟ صحابہ کرام رضی اللہ عنہ نے عرض کیا جو اللہ کے راستے میں جہاد کرتا ہوا مارا جائے نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا اس طرح تو میری امت میں شہداء کی تعداد بہت کم ہوگی جہاد فی سبیل اللہ میں مارا جانا بھی شہادت ہے پیٹ کی بیماری میں مرنا بھی شہادت ہے دریا میں غرق ہو کر مرنا بھی شہادت ہے طاعون میں مبتلا ہو کر مرنا بھی شہادت ہے اور نفاس کی حالت میں عورت کا مرنا بھی شہادت ہے۔
Hazrat Abu Huraira Razi Allah Anhu se marvi hai ke Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne ek martaba sahaba karam Razi Allah Anhu se poocha ke tum log apne darmiyan shaheed kise samajhte ho? Sahaba karam Razi Allah Anhu ne arz kiya jo Allah ke raste mein jihad karta hua mara jaye Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya is tarah to meri ummat mein shuhada ki tadad bahut kam hogi jihad fi sabilillah mein mara jana bhi shahadat hai pet ki bimari mein marna bhi shahadat hai darya mein gharq ho kar marna bhi shahadat hai taoon mein mubtala ho kar marna bhi shahadat hai aur nifas ki halat mein aurat ka marna bhi shahadat hai.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" مَا تَعُدُّونَ الشَّهِيدَ فِيكُمْ؟"، قَالُوا: مَنْ قُتِلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ. قَالَ:" إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذًا لَقَلِيلٌ، الْقَتْلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ شَهَادَةٌ، وَالْبَطَنُ شَهَادَةٌ، وَالْغَرَقُ شَهَادَةٌ، وَالنُّفَسَاءُ شَهَادَةٌ، وَالطَّاعُونُ شَهَادَةٌ" .
