Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 8626
It is narrated on the authority of Hadrat Abu Hurairah that a villager came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: “O Messenger of Allah! I stay in the desert areas continuously for four or five months. We have menstruating and postnatal women and men who become sexually impure (and we don't find water), so what is your opinion?”. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Make the earth obligatory upon yourselves” (that is, perform Tayammum).

حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ایک دیہاتی آدمی نبی ﷺ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا اور کہنے لگا یا رسول اللہ! میں چار پانچ مہینے تک مسلسل صحرائی علاقوں میں رہتا ہوں ہم میں حیض و نفاس والی عورتیں اور جنبی مرد بھی ہوتے ہیں (پانی نہیں ملتا) تو آپ کی کیا رائے ہے؟ نبی ﷺ فرمایا: مٹی کو اپنے اوپر لازم کرلو (یعنی تیمم کرلیا کرو)
Hazrat Abu Hurairah razi Allah anhu se marvi hai ki ek dehati aadmi Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki khidmat mein hazir hua aur kehne laga Ya Rasul Allah main chaar paanch mahine tak musalsal sahraai ilaqon mein rehta hun hum mein haiz o nifas wali aurtein aur junubi mard bhi hote hain pani nahin milta to aap ki kya rai hai Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) farmaya mitti ko apne upar lazim karlo yani tayammum kar liya karo
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ الْمُثَنَّى بْنِ الصَّبَّاحِ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّب ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ:" جَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّا نَكُونُ بِهَذَا الرَّمْلِ، فَلَا نَجِدُ الْمَاء، وَيَكُونُ فِينَا الْحَائِضُ وَالْجُنُبُ وَالنُّفَسَاءُ، فَيَأْتِي عَلَيْهَا أَرْبَعَةُ أَشْهُرٍ لَا تَجِدُ الْمَاءَ! قَالَ:" عَلَيْكَ بِالتُّرَابِ" ، يَعْنِي التَّيَمُّمَ.
