Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 8950
It is narrated by Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that whenever a funeral was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), he would first ask if the deceased owed any debt. If the people said yes, he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would ask if he had left any wealth to repay it. If they replied yes, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would lead the funeral prayer. However, if they replied no, he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would say, "Offer the funeral prayer of your companion yourselves."

حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ نبی کریم ﷺ کے پاس جب کوئی جنازہ لایا جاتا تو آپ ﷺ پہلے یہ سوال پوچھتے کہ اس شخص پر کوئی قرض ہے؟ اگر لوگ کہتے جی ہاں تو نبی کریم ﷺ پوچھتے کہ اسے اداء کرنے کے لئے اس نے کچھ مال چھوڑا ہے؟ اگر لوگ کہتے جی ہاں! تو نبی کریم ﷺ اس کی نماز جنازہ پڑھادیتے اور اگر وہ ناں میں جواب دیتے تو نبی کریم ﷺ فرما دیتے کہ اپنے ساتھی کی نماز جنازہ خود ہی پڑھ لو۔
Hazrat Abu Huraira Radi Allaho Anho se marvi hai ki Nabi Kareem Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam ke pass jab koi janaza laya jata to aap Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam pehle yeh sawal pochhte ki is shakhs per koi qarz hai? Agar log kehte ji haan to Nabi Kareem Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam pochhte ki ise ada karne ke liye is ne kuch maal chhora hai? Agar log kehte ji haan! To Nabi Kareem Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam is ki namaz janaza parha dete aur agar wo naan mein jawab dete to Nabi Kareem Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam farma dete ki apne saathi ki namaz janaza khud hi parh lo.
حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ ، قَالَ: أَنْبَأَنَا أَبُو زُبَيْدٍ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا مَرَّتْ بِهِ جِنَازَةٌ سَأَلَهُمْ: " أعَلَيْهِ دَيْنٌ؟" فَإِنْ قَالُوا: نَعَمْ، قَالَ:" تَرَكَ وَفَاءً؟" فَإِنْ قَالُوا: نَعَمْ، صَلَّى عَلَيْهِ، وَإِلَّا قَالَ:" صَلُّوا عَلَى صَاحِبِكُمْ" .
