Chapter on Neglecting Ablution from Sleep While Sitting
باب ترك الوضوء من النوم قاعدا
Sunan al-Kubra Bayhaqi 590
(590) It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them all) would wait for the 'Isha' prayer and their heads would nod in sleep, then they would pray and not perform ablution.
(b) Imam Abu Dawud (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Shu'bah added these words from Qatadah, "This was the practice during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)."

(٥٩٠) سیدنا انس (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ صحابہ کرام (رض) عشا کی نماز کا انتظار کرتے اور نیند سے ان کے سر جھک جاتے پھر وہ نماز پڑھتے اور وضو نہیں کرتے تھے۔
(ب) امام ابوداؤد (رح) فرماتے ہیں کہ شعبہ نے قتادہ سے یہ الفاظ زائد بیان کیے ہیں کہ یہ رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے زمانے کا فعل ہے۔
(590) sydna ans (rz) se riwayat hai ke sahaba kiram (rz) isha ki namaz ka intezar karte aur neend se un ke sar jhuk jate phir woh namaz parhte aur wazu nahi karte thay. (b) imam abudawood (rh) farmate hain ke shubah ne qatada se ye alfaz zaid bayan kiye hain ke ye rasool allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ke zamane ka feal hai.
Narrated Anas (RA): The Companions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to (sit and) fall asleep, then they would stand and offer prayer and they would not perform ablution, during the lifetime of the Prophet (ﷺ).

(٥٩١) سیدنا انس (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ صحابہ کرام (رض) (بیٹھے بیٹھے) سو جاتے، پھر کھڑے ہوتے اور نماز ادا کرتے۔ یہ حضرات نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے زمانہ میں (بھی اس سے) وضو نہیں کرتے تھے۔
(591) Syedna Anas (RA) se riwayat hai ke Sahaba Karam (RA) (baithe baithe) so jate, phir kharay hote aur namaz ada karte. Ye hazrat Nabi (SAW) ke zamana mein (bhi is se) wuzu nahi karte thay.
I saw the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) being woken up for prayer and I could hear them snoring, then they would stand up and pray without performing ablution.

(٥٩٢) سیدنا انس (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ میں نے صحابہ کرام (رض) کو دیکھا کہ ان کو نماز کے لیے بیدار کیا جاتا تھا اور میں ان کے خراٹے کی آواز سنتا، پھر وہ کھڑے ہو کر نماز ادا کرتے تھے اور وضو نہیں کرتے تھے۔
(592) سيدنا انس سے روايت ہے کہ مين نے صحابہ کرام کو ديکھا کہ ان کو نماز کے لئے بيدار کيا جاتا تھا اور مين ان کے خراٹے کی آواز سنتا، پھر وہ کھڑے ہو کر نماز ادا کرتے تھے اور وضو نہيں کرتے تھے۔
Narrated Anas bin Malik (RA): The Isha' prayer was ready and a man stood up and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have some work." The Prophet (ﷺ) kept standing and whispering to him while the people, or some of them, dozed off. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) led them in prayer without performing ablution.
(b) In Sahih Muslim, the wording is: "He did not mention ablution."

(٥٩٣) سیدنا انس بن مالک (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ عشا کی نماز کھڑی ہوئی تو ایک شخص نے کھڑے ہو کر عرض کیا : اے اللہ کے رسول ! مجھے کام ہے آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کھڑے ہو کر اس سے سرگوشی کرتے رہے اور لوگوں کو یا کسی ایک کو اونگھ آگئی، پھر آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے ان کو نماز پڑھائی اور وضو نہیں کیا۔
(ب) صحیح مسلم میں ” لَمْ یَذْکُرْ وُضُوئً ا “ کے الفاظ ہیں۔
(593) Sayyidna Anas bin Malik (RA) se riwayat hai ki isha ki namaz khari hui to ek shakhs ne khare ho kar arz kiya: Aye Allah ke Rasool! Mujhe kaam hai. Aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) khare ho kar us se sargosi karte rahe aur logon ko ya kisi ek ko ungh aa gai, phir Aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne un ko namaz parhayi aur wuzu nahi kiya.
(b) Sahih Muslim mein "Lam yazkur wuzu'an" ke alfaz hain.
It is narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), that whoever sleeps while sitting, his wudu (ablution) remains valid. If he lies down, then he must perform wudu.

(٥٩٥) سیدنا ابن عباس (رض) سے موقوفاً منقول ہے کہ جو شخص بیٹھ کر سو جائے اس کا وضو (باقی) ہے۔ اگر لیٹ جائے تو اس پر وضو ہے۔
(595) Syedna Ibn Abbas (RA) se moqufan manqol hai keh jo shakhs beth kar so jaye us ka wazu (baqi) hai. Agar lait jaye to us par wazu hai.
Hazifa bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I was sitting in the mosque of Medina, and my head was nodding (due to sleepiness). Someone poked me from behind, so I turned around and saw it was the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Am I in a state of ablution?" He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied, "No, not until your first nod."

(٥٩٥) سیدنا حذیفہ بن یمان (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ میں مدینہ کی مسجد میں اس حال میں بیٹھا ہوا تھا کہ میرا سر (نیند کی وجہ سے) جھک جاتا تھا ۔ پیچھے سے ایک شخص نے مجھے چوکا مارا تو میں نے مڑ کر دیکھا، وہ نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) تھے۔ میں نے عرض کیا : اے اللہ کے رسول ! کیا مجھے پر وضو ہے ؟ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : نہیں جب تک تیرا پہلونہ جھکے۔
Saydna Huzaifa bin Yaman (Razi Allah Anhu) se riwayat hai ki main Madinah ki masjid mein iss haal mein baitha hua tha ki mera sar (neend ki wajah se) jhuk jata tha. Peeche se ek shakhs ne mujhe chotka mara to maine mud kar dekha, woh Nabi ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) the. Maine arz kiya: Aye Allah ke Rasool! Kya mujhe par wuzu hai? Aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ne farmaya: Nahin jab tak tera pehlona jhuke.
