Sunan al-Kubra Bayhaqi 12434
(12434) Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote a letter to Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked him about (the inheritance share of) the grandfather. Zayd bin Thabit replied that you have asked me about the grandfather, Allah knows best and the Caliphs used to decide on this matter. I went to the two Caliphs before you, they both used to give the grandfather one-half with one brother and one-third with two brothers, and if the brothers were more, they would not reduce it from one-third. Salman bin Yasar said: Umar bin Khattab, Uthman bin Affan and Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with them) used to give the grandfather one-third with the brothers.

(١٢٤٣٤) حضرت معاویہ بن ابی سفیان (رض) نے زید بن ثابت (رض) کو خط لکھا اور دادے کے بارے میں سوال کیا۔ زید بن ثابت نے جواب دیا کہ آپ نے مجھ سے دادے کے بارے میں سوال کیا ہے، اللہ بہتر جانتے ہیں اور اس مسئلہ میں خلفاء فیصلہ کرتے تھے، میں آپ سے پہلے دو خلفاء کے پاس گیا ہوں، وہ دونوں دادے کو ایک بھائی کے ساتھ نصف دیتے تھے اور دو بھائیوں کے ساتھ ثلث دیتے تھے، اگر بھائی زیادہ ہوتے تو ثلث سے کم نہ کرتے تھے۔ سلمان بن یسار فرماتے ہیں : عمر بن خطاب، عثمان بن عفان اور زید بن ثابت (رض) دادے کو بھائیوں کے ساتھ ثلث دیتے تھے۔
Hazrat Muawiya bin Abi Sufyan (RA) ne Zaid bin Sabit (RA) ko khat likha aur dade ke bare mein sawal kiya. ١٢٤٣٤ -قَالَ:وَأنا مَالِكٌ أَنَّهُ بَلَغَهُ،عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ:فَرَضَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ وَزَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمْ" لِلْجَدِّ الثُّلُثَ مَعَ الْإِخْوَةِ "
