Sunan al-Kubra Bayhaqi 1386
Narrated by Sayyidina Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): If the religion were based on opinion, then wiping over the socks would have been more appropriate on the bottom than the top. However, I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) wiping over the top of the socks.

(١٣٨٦) سیدنا علی (رض) سے روایت ہے کہ اگر دین رائے سے ہوتا تو مسح موزے کے اوپر کی بجائے نیچے زیادہ مناسب ہوتا، جب کہ میں نے رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کو دیکھا، آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) موزوں کے اوپر والے حصے پر مسح کیا کرتے تھے۔
(1386) syedna ali (rz) se riwayat hai keh agar deen raaye se hota to masah mozon ke upar ki bajaye neeche zyada munasib hota, jab keh maine rasool allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ko dekha, aap ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) mozon ke upar wale hisse par masah kiya karte thay.
١٣٨٦ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ، أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ دَاسَةَ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ، ثنا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ خَيْرٍ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ،قَالَ:" لَوْ كَانَ الدِّينُ بِالرَّأْيِ لَكَانَ أَسْفَلُ الْخُفِّ أَوْلَى بِالْمَسْحِ مِنْ أَعْلَاهُ وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمْسَحُ عَلَى ظَاهِرِ خُفَّيْهِ "
