Sunan al-Kubra Bayhaqi 21049
Sulaiman said: I heard from Imam Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, that he said: He who does not recite the Quran with Tarannum (melodious recitation) has nothing to do with us. A man said that he is indifferent to it. He said: That is not the meaning, rather he recites it like one who sings Hadr (a type of mournful song).

(٢١٠٤٩) سلیمان فرماتے ہیں کہ میں نے امام شافعی (رح) سے سنا، وہ کہتے ہیں کہ جو قرآن کو ترنم سے نہ پڑھے اس کا ہمارے ساتھ کوئی تعلق نہیں۔ ایک آدمی نے کہا کہ وہ اس سے بے پروا ہوتا ہے، فرمانے لگے : یہ معنی نہیں ہے بلکہ وہ اس کو حدر غم گینی کے ساتھ پڑھتا ہے۔
(21049) Sulaiman farmate hain keh maine Imam Shafai (rah) se suna, woh kehte hain keh jo Quran ko tarannum se na parhe us ka hamare sath koi ta'lluq nahin. Ek aadmi ne kaha keh woh us se be parwa hota hai, farmane lage : yeh mani nahin hai balkeh woh us ko hadar gham geeni ke sath parhta hai.
٢١٠٤٩ -أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ قَالَ:سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ يَعْقُوبَ يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ الرَّبِيعَ بْنَ سُلَيْمَانَ يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ الشَّافِعِيَّ يَقُولُ:" لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ لَمْ يَتَغَنَّ بِالْقُرْآنِ "،فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ:لِيَسْتَغْنِيَ بِهِ؟فَقَالَ:" لَا، لَيْسَ هَذَا مَعْنَاهُ،مَعْنَاهُ:يَقْرَؤُهُ حَدْرًا وَتَحْزِينًا "
