Chapter on the evidence that the Prophet's Sa' was equivalent to five uqiyyahs and one third.
باب ما دل على أن صاع النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كان عياره خمسة أرطال وثلث.

(7721) Husayn ibn Waleed said: Abu Yusuf, upon returning from Hajj, visited us and said, "I want to open for you a door of knowledge that has benefited me." Then he left and went to Medina. I asked him about the Sa' (a unit of measurement), and he replied, "This Sa' of ours is the Sa' of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." I asked, "What is your evidence?" He said, "We will bring you the evidence." The next morning, about twenty-five elders came to me, all of whom were the sons of Muhajireen and Ansar. Each of them had a Sa' under their cloaks, and each one was saying to their family or parents, "This is the Sa' of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." When I saw them, I found them all to be equal, and it was a little less than five and a half Ratls (a unit of weight). So I considered it strong evidence and abandoned the opinion of Abu Hanifa and accepted the opinion of the people of Medina. Hasan said: I performed Hajj that same year and met Imam Malik ibn Anas. I asked him about the Sa', and he said, "This Sa' of ours is the Sa' of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." I asked, "How many Ratls is it?" He said, "The Makyal (measuring container) does not have Ratls." Husayn said: Then I met Abdullah ibn Zayd ibn Aslam, and he said, "My father told me from my grandfather that this is the Sa' of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him)."

(٧٧٢١) حسین بن ولید فرماتے ہیں کہ ابو یوسف حج سے واپسی پر ہمارے پاس تشریف لائے اور فرمانے لگے کہ میں چاہتا ہوں کہ تم پر علم کا ایک ایسا دروازہ کھولوں جس نے مجھے تیار کیا اور میں انھیں چھوڑ کر مدینے چلا آیا ، پھر میں نے صاع کے بارے میں پوچھا تو انھوں نے فرمایا : یہ ہمارا صاع رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کا صاع ہے۔ میں نے ان سے کہا : تمہاری کیا دلیل ہے ؟ انھوں نے کہا : ہم آپ کے پاس اس کی دلیل لاتے ہیں۔ اگلی صبح میرے پاس پچاس شیوخ کے لگ بھگ آئے جو مہاجرین و انصار کے بیٹے تھے۔ ان میں سے ہر ایک کے پاس اس کی چادر کے نیچے صاع تھا اور ان میں سے ہر ایک اپنے گھر والوں یا والدین سے کہہ رہا تھا کہ یہی رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کا صاع ہے۔ جب میں نے دیکھا تو سب کو برابر پایا اور وہ سواپانچ رطل سے کچھ کم تھا تو میں نے اس کو قوی جانا اور ابوحنیفہ کے قول کو ترک کردیا اور اہل مدینہ کے قول کو قبول کرلیا۔ حسن فرماتے ہیں : میں نے اسی سال حج کیا تو میری ملاقات امام مالک بن انس سے ہوئی۔ میں نے ان سے صاع کے بارے میں پوچھا تو انھوں نے فرمایا : ہمارا یہ صاع رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) ہی کا صاع ہے۔ میں نے پوچھا : یہ کتنے رطل کا ہے ؟ تو انھوں نے فرمایا : مکیال کے رطل نہیں ہوتے۔ حسین فرماتے ہیں : پھر میں عبداللہ بن زید بن اسلم سے ملا تو انھوں نے فرمایا : مجھے میرے والد نے میرے دادا کے حوالے سے بتایا ہے کہ یہی حضرت عمر (رض) کا صاع ہے۔
7721 Hussain bin Walid farmate hain ke Abu Yusuf Hajj se wapsi par humare pass tashreef laye aur farmane lage ke main chahta hun ke tum par ilm ka ek aisa darwaza kholon jisne mujhe taiyar kiya aur main unhen chhor kar Madine chala aaya phir maine sa'a ke bare mein pucha to unhon ne farmaya yeh hamara sa'a Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ka sa'a hai maine unse kaha tumhari kya daleel hai unhon ne kaha hum aap ke pass iski daleel late hain agli subah mere pass pachchis sheikh ke lag bhag aaye jo muhajirin wa ansar ke bete the unmen se har ek ke pass iski chadar ke niche sa'a tha aur unmen se har ek apne ghar walon ya walidain se keh raha tha ke yahi Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) ka sa'a hai jab maine dekha to sab ko barabar paya aur wo sawapanch ratl se kuchh kam tha to maine isko qawi jana aur Abu Hanifa ke qaul ko tark kardiya aur Ahl e Madina ke qaul ko qabool karliya Hasan farmate hain main ne isi saal Hajj kiya to meri mulaqat Imam Malik bin Anas se hui maine unse sa'a ke bare mein pucha to unhon ne farmaya hamara yeh sa'a Rasul Allah ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) hi ka sa'a hai maine pucha yeh kitne ratl ka hai to unhon ne farmaya maikal ke ratl nahin hote Hussain farmate hain phir main Abdullah bin Zaid bin Aslam se mila to unhon ne farmaya mujhe mere walid ne mere dada ke hawale se bataya hai ke yahi Hazrat Umar (RaziAllahu Anhu) ka sa'a hai
٧٧٢١ - وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، حدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَعْدٍ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ،قَالَ:قَدِمَ عَلَيْنَا أَبُو يُوسُفَ مِنَ الْحَجِّ، فَأَتَيْنَاهُ،فَقَالَ:" إِنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَفْتَحَ عَلَيْكُمْ بَابًا مِنَ الْعِلْمِ هَمَّنِي، تَفَحَّصْتُ عَنْهُ فَقَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ فَسَأَلْتُ عَنِ الصَّاعِ،فَقَالُوا:صَاعُنَا هَذَا صَاعُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ،قُلْتُ لَهُمْ:مَا حُجَّتُكُمْ فِي ذَلِكَ؟فَقَالُوا:نَأْتِيكَ بِالْحُجَّةِ غَدًا، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحْتُ أَتَانِي نَحْوٌ مِنْ خَمْسِينَ شَيْخًا مِنْ أَبْنَاءِ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَالْأَنْصَارِ، مَعَ كُلِّ رَجُلٍ مِنْهُمُ الصَّاعُ تَحْتَ رِدَائِهِ، كُلُّ رَجُلٍ مِنْهُمْ يُخْبِرُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَوْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ أَنَّ هَذَا صَاعُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَنَظَرْتُ فَإِذَا هِيَ سَوَاءٌ،قَالَ:فَعَايَرْتُهُ فَإِذَا هُوَ خَمْسَةُ أَرْطَالٍ وَثُلُثٌ بِنُقْصَانٍ مَعَهُ يَسِيرٍ، فَرَأَيْتُ أَمْرًا قَوِيًّا فَقَدْ تَرَكْتُ قَوْلَ أَبِي حَنِيفَةَ فِي الصَّاعِ، وَأَخَذْتُ بِقَوْلِ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ "قَالَ الْحُسَيْنُ: فَحَجَجْتُ مِنْ عَامِي ذَلِكَ فَلَقِيتُ مَالِكَ بْنَ أَنَسٍ، فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الصَّاعِ،فَقَالَ:صَاعُنَا هَذَا صَاعُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ،فَقُلْتُ:كَمْ رِطْلًا هُوَ؟قَالَ:إِنَّ الْمِكْيَالَ لَا يُرْطَلُ، هُوَ هَذَا.⦗٢٨٧⦘ قَالَ الْحُسَيْنُ:فَلَقِيتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ،فَقَالَ:حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ جَدِّي أَنَّ هَذَا صَاعُ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ
