Chapter on one who says Umrah is voluntary.
باب من قال العمرة تطوع
Sunan al-Kubra Bayhaqi 8754
Abdullah bin Aun used to recite this verse: { واتموا الحج والعمرة لله } "And complete the Hajj and 'Umrah for Allah." So he would say that it is obligatory. And Imam Sha'bi used to recite this verse and say that it is supererogatory (nafl).

(٨٧٥٤) عبداللہ بن عون یہ آیت پڑھتے : { وَأَتِمُّوا الْحَجَّ وَالْعُمْرَۃَ لِلَّہِ } ” حج و عمرہ کو اللہ کے لیے مکمل کرو۔ “ تو فرماتے کہ یہ واجب ہے اور یہی آیت امام شعبی پڑھتے اور فرماتے ہیں یہ نفل ہے۔
(8754) Abdullah bin Aun ye ayat parhte : { wa atimu al-hajja wa al-umrata lillahi } ” Hajj o Umrah ko Allah ke liye mukammal karo “ to farmate hain ke ye wajib hai aur yahi ayat Imam Shabi parhte aur farmate hain ye nafl hai.
٨٧٥٤ -قَالَ:وَكَانَ الشَّعْبِيُّ يَقْرَؤُهَا{وَأَتِمُّوا الْحَجَّ وَالْعُمْرَةَ لِلَّهِ}[البقرة: ١٩٦]وَيَقُولُ:" هِيَ تَطَوُّعٌ "
