Chapter: Prolonging certain sounds while reciting the Qur'an

باب مَدِّ الْقِرَاءَةِ

Sahih al-Bukhari 5045

Qatada narrated that he asked Anas bin Malik (رضي الله تعالی عنہ) about the recitation of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم). He said, he used to pronounce (certain sounds) long.

سیدنا قتادہ سے روایت ہے انہوں نے کہا کہ میں سیدنا یونس رضی اللہ عنہ سے نبی ﷺ کی قراءت کے متعلق سوال کیا تو انہوں نے فرمایا کہ آپ ﷺ خوب کھینچ کر پڑھا کرتے تھے۔

Sayyidna Qatada se riwayat hai unhon ne kaha ke main ne Sayyidna Yunus (Radi Allahu Anhu) se Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ki qiraat ke mutalliq sawal kiya to unhon ne farmaya ke aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) khoob kheench kar parha karte thay.

حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ عَنْ قِرَاءَةِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ فَقَالَ : كَانَ يَمُدُّ مَدًّا .

Sahih al-Bukhari 5046

Qatada narrated, Anas (رضي الله تعالى عنه), was asked, how was the recitation (of the Qur'an) of the Prophet?' He replied, ‘it was characterized by the prolongation of certain sounds.’ He then recited - ِبِسْم ِِ يمَّحَّحْمَنِ الرَّ ِ الراللَّ [In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful] prolonging the pronunciation of ِ َّبِبِسْمِ َّللا [In the Name of Allah], then َِّ حْمَنالر [the most Compassionate], then - ِِ يمَّ حالر [the Most Merciful].

سیدنا انس ؓ سے روایت ہے آپ سے سوال کیا گیا کہ نبی ﷺ کی قراءت کیسے تھی؟ تو انہوں نے بیان کیا کہ آپ ﷺ کھینچ کر پڑھتے تھے۔ پھر آپ نے بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم کو پڑھا یعنی بسم اللہ کو کھنیچ کر پڑ ھتے الرحمن کو مد کے ساتھ پڑھتے اور الرحیم کو بھی کھینچ کر تلاوت کرتے۔

Sayyidna Anas (Radi Allahu Anhu) se riwayat hai aap se sawal kiya gaya ke Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ki qiraat kaise thi? To unhon ne bayan kiya ke aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) kheench kar parhte thay. Phir aap ne Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim ko parha yani Bismillah ko kheench kar parhte Al-Rahman ko madd ke saath parhte aur Al-Rahim ko bhi kheench kar tilawat karte.

حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَاصِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، قَالَ : سُئِلَ أَنَسٌ : كَيْفَ كَانَتْ قِرَاءَةُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ فَقَالَ : كَانَتْ مَدًّا ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ : بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ ، يَمُدُّ بِبِسْمِ اللَّهِ ، وَيَمُدُّ بِالرَّحْمَنِ ، وَيَمُدُّ بِالرَّحِيمِ .
