Sahih al-Bukhari 2003
Humaid bin Abdur Rahman narrated that he heard Muawiya bin Abi Sufyan (رضي الله تعالى عنه) on the day of 'Ashura' during the year he performed the Hajj, saying on the pulpit, ‘O the people of Madina, where are your Religious Scholars? I heard Allah's Apostle saying, 'this is the day of 'Ashura'. Allah has not enjoined its fasting on you, but I am fasting it. You have the choice either to fast or not to fast (on this day).'
حضرت حمید بن عبدالرحمان سے روایت ہے انھوں نے حضرت امیر معاویہ ؓ کو عاشوراء کے دن، جس سال انھوں نے حج کیا، منبر پر خطبہ دیتے ہوئے سنا، آپ نے فرمایا: اے اہل مدینہ !تمہارے علماء کہاں گئے؟ میں نے رسول اللہ ﷺ سے سنا، آپ نے فرمایا: ’’یہ عاشوراء کا دن ہے۔ اللہ تعالیٰ نے تم پر اس دن کا روزہ فرض نہیں کیا۔ البتہ میں روزے سے ہوں، اس لیے جو چاہے روزہ رکھے اور جو چاہے، اسے چھوڑ دے۔‘‘
Hazrat Humaid bin Abdur Rahman se riwayat hai unhon ne Hazrat Ameer Muawiyah (Radi Allahu Anhu) ko Ashura ke din, jis saal unhon ne hajj kiya, minbar par khutbah dete huye suna, aap ne farmaya: Ae ahl-e-Madinah! Tumhare ulama kahan gaye? Main ne Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) se suna, aap ne farmaya: "Ye Ashura ka din hai. Allah Ta'ala ne tum par is din ka roza farz nahi kiya. Albatta main rozay se hoon, is liye jo chahe roza rakkhe aur jo chahe, ise chhor de."
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ ، عَامَ حَجَّ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ ، يَقُولُ : يَا أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ ، أَيْنَ عُلَمَاؤُكُمْ ؟ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : هَذَا يَوْمُ عَاشُورَاءَ ، وَلَمْ يَكْتُبْ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكُمْ صِيَامَهُ ، وَأَنَا صَائِمٌ ، فَمَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيَصُمْ ، وَمَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيُفْطِرْ .
