"Those to whom We gave the Scripture (Jews and Christians) recognise him (Muhammad or the Ka'bah at Makkah) as they recognise their sons..." (V.2:146).

باب {الَّذِينَ آتَيْنَاهُمُ الْكِتَابَ يَعْرِفُونَهُ كَمَا يَعْرِفُونَ أَبْنَاءَهُمْ وَإِنَّ فَرِيقًا مِنْهُمْ لَيَكْتُمُونَ الْحَقَّ} إِلَى قَوْلِهِ {مِنَ الْمُمْتَرِينَ}

Sahih al-Bukhari 4491
Narrated Ibn `Umar: While some people were offering Fajr prayer at Quba' (mosque), some-one came to them and said, Tonight some Qur'anic Verses have been revealed to the Prophet and he has been ordered to face the Ka`ba (at Mecca) (during prayers), so you too should turn your faces towards it. At that time their faces were towards Sham (Jerusalem) so they turned towards the Ka`ba (at Mecca).
حضرت ابن عمر ؓ سے روایت ہے، انہوں نے فرمایا: ایک وقت لوگ مسجد قباء میں صبح کی نماز پڑھ رہے تھے کہ ایک شخص نے ان کے پاس آ کر کہا: آج رات نبی ﷺ پر قرآن نازل ہوا ہے اور آپ کو حکم ہوا ہے کہ کعبے کی طرف منہ کر لیں، اس لیے آپ لوگ کعبے کی طرف منہ کر لیں۔ اس وقت ان کا منہ شام (بیت المقدس) کی طرف تھا، چنانچہ سب نمازی کعبے کی طرف پھر گئے۔
Hazrat Ibn Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) se riwayat hai, unhon ne farmaya: Ek waqt log Masjid-e-Quba mein subah ki namaz parh rahe the ke ek shakhs ne un ke paas aa kar kaha: Aaj raat Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) par Quran nazil hua hai aur aap ko hukm hua hai ke Ka'be ki taraf munh kar lein, is liye aap log Ka'be ki taraf munh kar lein. Is waqt un ka munh Shaam (Bait-ul-Maqdis) ki taraf tha, chunanche sab namazi Ka'be ki taraf phir gaye.
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ قَزَعَةَ , حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ , عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ , عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ , قَالَ : بَيْنَا النَّاسُ بِقُبَاءٍ فِي صَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ إِذْ جَاءَهُمْ آتٍ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ أُنْزِلَ عَلَيْهِ اللَّيْلَةَ قُرْآنٌ وَقَدْ أُمِرَ أَنْ يَسْتَقْبِلَ الْكَعْبَةَ ، فَاسْتَقْبِلُوهَا وَكَانَتْ وُجُوهُهُمْ إِلَى الشَّأْمِ فَاسْتَدَارُوا إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ .
