"And fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief and polytheism, i.e., worshipping others besides Allah) and the religion (worship) will be all for Allah (Alone) (in the whole of the world)..." (V.8:39)

Sahih al-Bukhari 4651
Sa`id bin Jubair ( رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that Ibn Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) came to us and a man said (to him), ‘what do you think about ِقِتَالِ الْفِتْنَة (fighting caused by afflictions).’ Ibn Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) said, ‘and do you understand what an affliction is? Prophet Muhammad ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to fight against the pagans, and his fighting with them was an affliction and it was not like your fighting which is carried on for the sake of ruling.’
حضرت سعید بن جبیر سے روایت ہے، انہوں نے کہا: حضرت ابن عمر ؓ ہمارے پاس تشریف لائے تو ایک صاحب نے ان سے دریافت کیا: فتنے کی لڑائی کے متعلق آپ کا کیا خیال ہے؟ انہوں نے فرمایا: کیا تجھے فتنے کے متعلق علم ہے کہ وہ کیا ہے؟ حضرت محمد ﷺ مشرکین سے جنگ کرتے تھے جبکہ ان میں ٹھہر جانا ہی فتنہ تھا۔ رسول اللہ ﷺ کی جنگ تمہاری ملک و سلطنت کی خاطر جنگ کی طرح نہیں تھی۔
Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair se riwayat hai, unhon ne kaha: Hazrat Ibn Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) hamare paas tashreef laye to ek sahab ne in se daryaft kiya: Fitne ki larayi ke mutaliq aap ka kya khayal hai? Unhon ne farmaya: Kya tujhe fitne ke mutaliq ilm hai ke woh kya hai? Hazrat Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) mushrikeen se jang karte thay jabke in mein thehar jana hi fitna tha. Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ki jang tumhari mulk-o-sultanat ki khatir jang ki tarah nahi thi.
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا بَيَانٌ ، أَنَّ وَبَرَةَ حَدَّثَهُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ جُبَيْرٍ ، قَالَ : خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا أَوْ إِلَيْنَا ابْنُ عُمَرَ ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ : كَيْفَ تَرَى فِي قِتَالِ الْفِتْنَةِ ؟ فَقَالَ : وَهَلْ تَدْرِي مَا الْفِتْنَةُ ؟ كَانَ مُحَمَّدٌ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُقَاتِلُ الْمُشْرِكِينَ ، وَكَانَ الدُّخُولُ عَلَيْهِمْ فِتْنَةً ، وَلَيْسَ كَقِتَالِكُمْ عَلَى الْمُلْكِ .
