Chapter on praying on a mount

باب الصلاة على الراحلة

Sunan al-Darimi 1552

It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Jabir (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to offer (optional) prayers while riding his she-camel, facing towards the east. And when he would offer the obligatory prayers, he would dismount and then face towards the Qibla and pray.

سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ اپنی اونٹنی پر مشرق کی طرف منہ کئے ہوئے (نفلی) نماز پڑھتے تھے اور جب فرض پڑھتے تو سواری سے اتر جاتے اور پھر قبلے کی طرف منہ کر کے نماز پڑھتے۔

Sayyidna Jabir (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se marvi hai ki Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) apni untni par mashriq ki taraf munh kiye hue (nafili) namaz parhte the aur jab farz parhte to sawari se utar jate aur phir qibla ki taraf munh kar ke namaz parhte.

أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أَنْبأَنَا هِشَامٌ الدَّسْتَوَائِيُّ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ ثَوْبَانَ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ "يُصَلِّي عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ نَحْوَ الْمَشْرِقِ، فَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ الْمَكْتُوبَةَ، نَزَلَ فَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ".

Saidina Amir bin Rabia (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) offering a supererogatory prayer on a she-camel, and he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was praying with the gesture of his head, not paying attention to which direction the mount was facing, but he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would not do so in obligatory prayers.

سیدنا عامر بن ربیعہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ میں نے رسول اللہ ﷺ کو اونٹنی پر نفل نماز پڑھتے دیکھا، آپ ﷺ سر کے اشارے سے نماز پڑھ رہے تھے، اس کا خیال کئے بغیر کہ سواری کا منہ کسی طرف ہے، لیکن فرض نمازوں میں آپ ﷺ اس طرح نہیں کرتے تھے۔

Saina Amir bin Rabia Razi Allahu Anhu ne kaha ki maine Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko untni par nafl namaz parhte dekha, Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) sar ke ishare se namaz parh rahe the, iska khayal kiye baghair ki sawari ka munh kisi taraf hai, lekin farz namaazon mein Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) is tarah nahi karte the.

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ، حَدَّثَنِي عُقَيْلٌ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَامِرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ، أَنَّ عَامِرَ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ، قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ "يُسَبِّحُ وَهُوَ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ، وَيُومِئُ بِرَأْسِهِ قِبَلَ أَيِّ وَجْهٍ تَوَجَّهَ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصْنَعُ ذَلِكَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ".
