Chapter on someone who begins fasting voluntarily then breaks it

باب فيمن يصبح صائما تطوعا ثم يفطر

Sunan al-Darimi 1773

Lady Umm Hani bint Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) visited her while she was observing a fast. A utensil of water was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), from which he drank. He then gave the utensil to Lady Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) and she also drank from it. (She then said, "I was fasting and I have broken my fast.") The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "If it was a fast that you were making up for Ramadan, then fast another day in its place. And if it was a voluntary fast, then make it up if you wish, and if you do not wish to, then do not make it up.”

سیدہ ام ہانی بنت ابی طالب رضی اللہ عنہا سے مروی ہے کہ نبی کریم ﷺ ان کے پاس تشریف لائے تو وہ روزے سے تھیں، آپ ﷺ کے پاس پانی کا برتن لایا گیا جس سے آپ ﷺ نے پانی پیا، پھر وہ برتن سیدہ ام ہانی رضی اللہ عنہا کو دیا، انہوں نے بھی پانی پی لیا (پھر عرض کیا: میرا روزہ تھا اور میں نے افطار کر لیا)، رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”اگر یہ روزہ رمضان کے روزے کی قضا کا تھا تو دوسرے دن روزہ رکھ لینا، اور اگر نفلی روزہ تھا تو جی چاہے تو قضا کر لینا دل نہ چاہے تو قضا نہ کرنا۔“

Sada Umme Hani bint Abi Talib Raziallahu Anha se marvi hai ki Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) un ke paas tashreef laaye to woh rozedar theen, Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke paas pani ka bartan laya gaya jis se Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne pani piya, phir woh bartan Sayyida Umme Hani Raziallahu Anha ko diya, unhon ne bhi pani pee liya (phir arz kiya: mera roza tha aur maine iftar kar liya), Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: ”Agar ye roza Ramzan ke rozedar ki qaza ka tha to doosre din roza rakh lena, aur agar nafli roza tha to jee chahe to qaza kar lena dil na chahe to qaza na karna“.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ هَارُونَ ابْنِ ابْنَةِ أُمِّ هَانِئٍ أَوْ ابْنِ ابْنِ أُمِّ هَانِئٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ هَانِئٍ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا وَهِيَ صَائِمَةٌ، فَأُتِيَ بِإِنَاءٍ فَشَرِبَ ثُمَّ نَاوَلَهَا فَشَرِبَتْ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "إِنْ كَانَ قَضَاءَ رَمَضَانَ، فَصُومِي يَوْمًا آخَرَ، وَإِنْ كَانَ تَطَوُّعًا، فَإِنْ شِئْتِ، فَاقْضِيهِ، وَإِنْ شِئْتِ، فَلَا تَقْضِيهِ".

Sunan al-Darimi 1774

Sayyidah Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: On the day of the conquest of Makkah, Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) came and sat on the left side of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and Sayyidah Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) was on his right. She said: The slave-girl came with a bowl of water and offered it to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He drank from it, then he gave it to Sayyidah Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her), and she also drank from that bowl. Then she said: "O Messenger of Allah! I was fasting and now I have broken my fast." He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Was it a fast that was obligatory upon you?" She said: "No." He said: "Then there is no harm, as it was a voluntary fast." Imam Darimi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: This is also my opinion (i.e., if a voluntary fast is broken, then there is no harm).

سیدہ ام ہانی رضی اللہ عنہا نے کہا: فتح مکہ کے دن سیدہ فاطمہ رضی اللہ عنہا آئیں اور رسول اللہ ﷺ کے بائیں طرف بیٹھ گئیں، اور سیدہ ام ہانی رضی اللہ عنہا دائیں طرف تھیں، انہوں نے کہا: لونڈی پانی کا برتن لے کر آئی اور آپ ﷺ کو پیش کیا، آپ نے اس سے پانی پیا، پھر سیدہ ام ہانی رضی اللہ عنہا کو دیا، انہوں نے بھی اس برتن سے پانی پیا پھر عرض کیا: اے اللہ کے رسول! میں تو روزے سے تھی اور اب روزه توڑ دیا؟ آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا: ”قضا کا روزہ تھا؟“ عرض کیا: نہیں، فرمایا: ”تب کوئی حرج نہیں جبکہ نفلی روز ہ تھا۔“ امام دارمی رحمہ اللہ نے کہا: یہ ہی میرا قول ہے (یعنی نفلی روزہ اگر توڑ دیا تو کہا کوئی حرج نہیں)۔

Sayyida Umme Hani ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ا) ne kaha: Fath Makkah ke din Sayyida Fatima ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ا) aayin aur Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke baayein taraf baith gayin, aur Sayyida Umme Hani ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ا) daayein taraf thin, unhon ne kaha: Londi pani ka bartann lekar aayi aur Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko pesh kiya, Aap ne us se pani piya, phir Sayyida Umme Hani ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ا) ko diya, unhon ne bhi us bartann se pani piya phir arz kiya: Aye Allah ke Rasul! main to rozey se thi aur ab roza todh diya? Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: "Qaza ka roza tha?" Arz kiya: "Nahin," farmaya: "Tab koi harz nahin jabke nafli rozah tha." Imam Darami rehmatullah Alaih ne kaha: Yahi mera qaul hai (yani nafli rozah agar todh diya to kaha koi harz nahin).

حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ , حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ أُمِّ هَانِئٍ، قَالَتْ: لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ، جَاءَتْ فَاطِمَةُ فَجَلَسَتْ عَنْ يَسَارِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأُمُّ هَانِئٍ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ. قَالَتْ: فَجَاءَتْ الْوَلِيدَةُ بِإِنَاءٍ فِيهِ شَرَابٌ فَنَاوَلَتْهُ، فَشَرِبَ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ نَاوَلَهُ أُمَّ هَانِئٍ، فَشَرِبَتْ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، لَقَدْ أَفْطَرْتُ، وَكُنْتُ صَائِمَةً. فَقَالَ لَهَا: "أَكُنْتِ تَقْضِينَ شَيْئًا؟ قَالَتْ: لَا. قَالَ:"فَلَا يَضُرُّكِ إِنْ كَانَ تَطَوُّعًا". قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّد: أَقُولُ بِهِ.
