Sunan al-Darimi 1722
Narrated by Sayyidina Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, mentioning fasting: “Do not start fasting until you see the new moon, and do not break the fast until you see it; but if the weather is cloudy, then estimate its completion, meaning complete thirty days.”

سیدنا ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے روزے کا ذکر کرتے ہوئے فرمایا: ”جب تک چاند نہ دیکھ لو روزہ شروع نہ کرو اور نہ بنا چاند دیکھے روزے ختم کرو، اور اگر ابر چھا جائے تو اندازاً گنتی پوری کرو، یعنی تیس دن پورے کرو۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne rozey ka zikar karte huye farmaya: “Jab tak chand na dekh lo roza shuru na karo aur na bina chand dekhe rozey khatam karo, aur agar abbr chha jaye to andazan ginti puri karo, yani tees din pure karo.”
حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَجِيدِ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهِ عَنْهُمَا، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَكَرَ رَمَضَانَ، فَقَالَ: "لَا تَصُومُوا حَتَّى تَرَوْا الْهِلَالَ، وَلَا تُفْطِرُوا حَتَّى تَرَوْهُ، فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ، فَاقْدُرُوا لَهُ".
