Chapter: Touching the Black Stone

باب اسْتِلاَمِ الْحَجَرِ

Sunan Ibn Majah 2943

Abdullah bin Sarjis narrated that he saw the bald forehead of Umar bin Khattab ( رضي الله تعالى عنه) when he kissed the Black Stone and said, ‘I am kissing you, although I know that you are only a stone, and you can neither cause harm nor bring benefit. Had I not seen the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) kissing you, I would not have kissed you.’


Grade: Sahih

عبداللہ بن سرجس کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے «اصیلع» یعنی عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ کو دیکھا کہ وہ حجر اسود کو چوم رہے تھے، اور کہہ رہے تھے: میں تجھے چوم رہا ہوں حالانکہ مجھے معلوم ہے کہ تو ایک پتھر ہے، جو نہ نقصان پہنچا سکتا ہے نہ فائدہ، اور میں نے اگر رسول اللہ ﷺ کو تجھے چومتے نہ دیکھا ہوتا تو میں تجھے نہ چومتا ۔

Abdul-Allah bin Sarjas kehte hain ke main ne «Asile'» yani Umar bin Khatab (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ko dekha ke woh Hajar-e-Aswad ko chum rahe the, aur keh rahe the: main tujhe chum raha hun halankeh mujhe ma'loom hai ke tu ek pathhar hai, jo na nuqsan pahuncha sakta hai na faida, aur main ne agar Rasool-Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko tujhe chumte na dekha hota to main tujhe na chumta ۱؎.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ الْأَحْوَلُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَرْجِسَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ رَأَيْتُ الْأُصَيْلِعَ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ يُقَبِّلُ الْحَجَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَيَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ إِنِّي لَأُقَبِّلُكَ وَإِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ حَجَرٌ لَا تَضُرُّ وَلَا تَنْفَعُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَوْلَا أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُقَبِّلُكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏مَا قَبَّلْتُكَ .

Sunan Ibn Majah 2944

Sa’eed bin Jubair narrrated that he heard Ibn Abbas (رضي الله تعالی عنہ) say that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, ‘this Stone will be brought on the Day of Resurrection, and it will be given two eyes with which to see, and a tongue with which to speak, and it will bear witness for those who touched it in sincerity.’


Grade: Sahih

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: یہ پتھر قیامت کے دن آئے گا اس کی دو آنکھیں ہوں گی جن سے وہ دیکھ رہا ہو گا، ایک زبان ہو گی جس سے وہ بول رہا ہو گا، اور گواہی دے گا اس شخص کے حق میں جس نے حق کے ساتھ اسے چھوا ہو گا ۔

Abdul'lah bin Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a kehte hain ke Rasul'ullah sall'Allahu alaihi wa sallam ne farmaya: yeh pathhar qiyamat ke din aayega is ki do aankhen hongi jin se woh dekh raha hoga, ek zaban hogi jis se woh bol raha hoga, aur gawah dega is shakhs ke haq mein jis ne haq ke sath use chhua hoga

حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحِيمِ الرَّازِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ابْنِ خُثَيْمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ لَيَأْتِيَنَّ هَذَا الْحَجَرُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَلَهُ عَيْنَانِ يُبْصِرُ بِهِمَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلِسَانٌ يَنْطِقُ بِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَشْهَدُ عَلَى مَنْ يَسْتَلِمُهُ بِحَقٍّ .

Sunan Ibn Majah 2945

Ibn Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) turned to face the Stone, then he put his lips on it and wept for a long time. Then he turned and saw Umar bin Khattab (رضي الله تعالى عنه) weeping. He said, ‘O Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه), this is the place where tears should be shed.’


Grade: Da'if

عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے حجر اسود کی طرف رخ کیا، پھر اپنے دونوں ہونٹ اس پر رکھ دئیے، اور دیر تک روتے رہے، پھر ایک طرف نظر اٹھائی تو دیکھا کہ عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ بھی رو رہے ہیں، آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا: عمر! اس جگہ آنسو بہائے جاتے ہیں ۔

Abd-al-llah bin Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a kehte hain ke Rasul-Allah salla-llahu alaihi wa sallam ne Hajar-e-Aswad ki taraf rukh kiya, phir apne donon honth us par rakh diye, aur der tak rote rahe, phir ek taraf nazar uthai to dekha ke Umar bin Khatab (رضي الله تعالى عنه) bhi ro rahe hain, Aap salla-llahu alaihi wa sallam ne farmaya: Umar! Is jagah aansu bahaye jate hain.

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا خَالِي يَعْلَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَوْنٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ نَافِعٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ اسْتَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْحَجَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ وَضَعَ شَفَتَيْهِ عَلَيْهِ يَبْكِي طَوِيلًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِذَا هُوَ بِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ يَبْكِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ يَا عُمَرُ:‏‏‏‏ هَاهُنَا تُسْكَبُ الْعَبَرَاتُ .

Sunan Ibn Majah 2946

Salim bin Abdullah narrated that his father said, ‘the Apostle of Allah ( صلى ہللا عليه و آلهوسلم) did not touch the corners of the Ka’ba apart from the Black Corner (the corner where the Black Stone is) and the one that is next to it facing the houses of Banu Jumah (the Yemenite Corner).’


Grade: Sahih

عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ بجز حجر اسود اور اس کے جو اس سے قریب ہے یعنی رکن یمانی جو بنی جمح کے محلے کی طرف ہے بیت اللہ کے کسی کونے کا استلام نہیں فرماتے تھے ۔

Abdullah bin Umar razi Allah unhuma kehte hain ki Rasul Allah SAW bajuz Hajar Aswad aur uske jo us se qareeb hai yani Rukn Yamani jo Bani Jumah ke mohalle ki taraf hai Baitullah ke kisi kone ka istelaam nahi farmate thay.

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ السَّرْحِ الْمِصْرِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْسَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَمْ يَكُنْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْتَلِمُ مِنْ أَرْكَانِ الْبَيْتِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِلَّا الرُّكْنَ الْأَسْوَدَ وَالَّذِي يَلِيهِ مِنْ نَحْوِ دُورِ الْجُمَحِيِّينَ .
