It was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr (رضي الله تعالى عنه) that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said: “The most beloved fast to Allah (ع ز و ج ل) is the fast of Dawud ( عليه السالم), for he used to fast one day and not the next. And the most beloved of prayer to Allah (ع ز و ج ل) is the prayer of Dawud (عليه السالم); he used to sleep half of the night, pray one-third of the night and sleep one-sixth of the night.”

عمرو بن اوس کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے عبداللہ بن عمرو رضی اللہ عنہما کو کہتے سنا ہے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: اللہ تعالیٰ کے نزدیک روزوں میں سب سے زیادہ پسندیدہ روزہ داود علیہ السلام کا روزہ ہے، وہ ایک دن روزہ رکھتے اور ایک دن نہیں رکھتے تھے، اور اللہ تعالیٰ کے نزدیک سب سے زیادہ پسندیدہ نماز داود علیہ السلام کی نماز ہے، آپ آدھی رات سوتے تھے، پھر تہائی رات تک نماز پڑھتے تھے، پھر رات کے چھٹے حصہ میں سو رہتے ۔
Amro bin Aws kehte hain ke main ne Abdullah bin Amro ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a ko kehte suna hai ke Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Allah Ta'ala ke nazdeek rozon mein sab se zyada pasandida roza Dawood alayhis salam ka roza hai, woh ek din roza rakhte aur ek din nahin rakhte the, aur Allah Ta'ala ke nazdeek sab se zyada pasandida namaz Dawood alayhis salam ki namaz hai, aap aadh raat sote the, phir tehai raat tak namaz padhte the, phir raat ke chhathe hisse mein so rahe.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاق الشَّافِعِيُّ إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَمْرَو بْنَ أَوْسٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو، يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: أَحَبُّ الصِّيَامِ إِلَى اللَّهِ صِيَامُ دَاوُدَ، فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ يَصُومُ يَوْمًا وَيُفْطِرُ يَوْمًا، وَأَحَبُّ الصَّلَاةِ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ صَلَاةُ دَاوُدَ، كَانَ يَنَامُ نِصْفَ اللَّيْلِ، وَيُصَلِّي ثُلُثَهُ، وَيَنَامُ سُدُسَهُ .
