‘Alqama said:When we were in Hims Ibn Mas’ūd recitedsūra Yūsuf(Quran, 12) and a man declared that it was not sent down like that. To this ‘Abdallāh replied, “I swear by God that I recited it in the time of God’s messenger and he told me I had done it well.” While speaking to him he noticed the smell of wine on him, so he said, “Do you drink wine and declare the Book false?” and then gave him the prescribed beating. (Bukhārī and Muslim.)

علقمہ ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، ہم حمص (ملک شام) میں تھے ، تو ابن مسعود ؓ نے سورۂ یوسف تلاوت فرمائی تو کسی آدمی نے کہا : اس طرح تو نازل نہیں ہوئی ، تو عبداللہ ؓ نے فرمایا : اللہ کی قسم! میں نے اسے رسول اللہ ﷺ کی موجودگی میں پڑھا تھا تو آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا تھا :’’ تم نے بہت خوب پڑھا ۔‘‘ اس اثنا میں کہ وہ شخص ان سے باتیں کر رہا تھا تو انہوں نے اس سے شراب کی بو محسوس کی تو انہوں نے فرمایا : کیا تم شراب پیتے ہو اور قرآن کی تکذیب کرتے ہو ؟ پس انہوں نے اس پر حد قائم کی ۔ متفق علیہ ۔ علقمہ ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، ہم حمص (ملک شام) میں تھے ، تو ابن مسعود ؓ نے سورۂ یوسف تلاوت فرمائی تو کسی آدمی نے کہا : اس طرح تو نازل نہیں ہوئی ، تو عبداللہ ؓ نے فرمایا : اللہ کی قسم! میں نے اسے رسول اللہ ﷺ کی موجودگی میں پڑھا تھا تو آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا تھا :’’ تم نے بہت خوب پڑھا ۔‘‘ اس اثنا میں کہ وہ شخص ان سے باتیں کر رہا تھا تو انہوں نے اس سے شراب کی بو محسوس کی تو انہوں نے فرمایا : کیا تم شراب پیتے ہو اور قرآن کی تکذیب کرتے ہو ؟ پس انہوں نے اس پر حد قائم کی ۔ متفق علیہ ۔
Alqama bayan karte hain, hum Hums (mulk Sham) mein thay, tou Ibn Masood ne Surah Yusuf tilawat farmaie tou kisi aadmi ne kaha: Is tarah tou nazil nahin hui, tou Abdullah ne farmaya: Allah ki qasam! Maine ise Rasool Allah ki maujoodgi mein parha tha tou Aap ne farmaya tha: ''Tum ne bahut khoob parha.'' Is asna mein ke woh shakhs unse baaten kar raha tha tou unhon ne us se sharaab ki boo mehsoos ki tou unhon ne farmaya: Kya tum sharaab pite ho aur Quran ki takzeeb karte ho? Pas unhon ne us par had qaim ki. Mutaffiq Alaih. وَعَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ قَالَ: كُنَّا بِحِمْصَ فَقَرَأَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ سُورَةَ يُوسُفَ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: مَا هَكَذَا أُنْزِلَتْ. فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ: وَاللَّهِ لَقَرَأْتُهَا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: «أَحْسَنْتَ» فَبَيْنَا هُوَ يُكَلِّمُهُ إِذْ وَجَدَ مِنْهُ رِيحَ الْخَمْرِ فَقَالَ: أَتَشْرَبُ الْخَمْرَ وَتُكَذِّبُ بِالْكِتَابِ؟ فَضَرَبَهُ الْحَد
