Ibn Abbas narrated: When this verse was revealed: "And warn your close relatives," the Prophet (ﷺ) ascended Safa mountain and called out: "O Banu Fihr! O Banu Adi!" (These were the tribes of Quraysh). Until they gathered, then he said: "Tell me, if I were to inform you that there is an army in the valley that wants to attack you, would you believe me?" They said: "Yes, we have always found you truthful." He (ﷺ) said: "I am warning you of a severe punishment." Abu Lahab said: "May you perish for the rest of your days! Is this what you gathered us for?" Then the Surah (تَبَّتْ يَدَآ اَبِيْ لَهَبٍ وَّتَبَّ) "May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he," was revealed. In another narration, he called out: "O Banu Abd Manaf! My example and your example is that of a man who saw the enemy and went to warn his family, fearing that they (the enemy) might overtake them, so he shouts at the top of his voice: O Sabah!" (Agreed upon).

ابن عباس ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، جب یہ آیت :’’ اپنے قریبی رشتے داروں کو ڈرائیں ۔‘‘ نازل ہوئی تو نبی ﷺ صفا پہاڑی پر چڑھ کر آواز دینے لگے : بنو فہر ! بنو عدی ! (جو کہ قریش کے قبیلے ہیں) حتیٰ کہ وہ اکٹھے ہو گئے ، تو فرمایا :’’ مجھے بتاؤ اگر میں تمہیں خبر دوں کہ وادی میں ایک لشکر ہے جو تم پر حملہ کرنا چاہتا ہے تو کیا تم میری تصدیق کرو گے ؟‘‘ انہوں نے کہا : جی ، ہم نے آپ کو سچا ہی پایا ہے ۔ آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ میں عذاب شدید سے پہلے تمہیں آگاہ کرنے والا ہوں ۔‘‘ ابولہب نے کہا : باقی ایام میں تیرے لیے ہلاکت ہو ، کیا تم نے اس لیے ہمیں جمع کیا تھا ، تب سورت (تَبَّتْ يَدَآ اَبِيْ لَهَبٍ وَّتَبَّ ) ’’ ابو لہب کے ہاتھ ٹوٹ جائیں اور وہ تباہ و برباد ہو جائے ۔‘‘ نازل ہوئی ۔\nایک دوسری روایت میں ہے ، آپ نے آواز دی ’’ بنو عبد مناف ! میری اور تمہاری مثال اس شخص کی طرح ہے جس نے دشمن کو دیکھا تو وہ اپنے اہل و عیال کو بچانے چلا تو اسے اندیشہ ہوا کہ وہ (دشمن) اس پر سبقت لے جائیں گے تو وہ (دشمن کی اطلاع دینے کے لیے) زور زور سے کہتا ہے : یا صبا حاہ ۔‘‘ متفق علیہ ۔\n
Ibne Abbas bayan karte hain, jab yeh aayat: ''Apne qareebi rishtedaron ko darayein.'' Nazil hui to Nabi Safa pahari par chad kar awaz dene lage: Banu Fahr! Banu Adi! (Jo keh Quresh ke qabile hain) Hata ke woh ikatthey ho gaye, to farmaya: ''Mujhe batao agar main tumhen khabar dun ke wadi mein ek lashkar hai jo tum par hamla karna chahta hai to kya tum meri tasdeeq karoge?'' Unhon ne kaha: Jee, hum ne aap ko sacha hi paya hai. Aap ne farmaya: ''Main azab shadeed se pehle tumhen aagaah karne wala hun.'' Abu Lahab ne kaha: ''Baqi ayam mein tere liye halakat ho, kya tum ne is liye hamen jama kiya tha,'' Tab surat (Tabbat yada abi lahab wa tab) ''Abu Lahab ke hath toot jayen aur woh tabah o barbad ho jaye.'' Nazil hui. Ek dusri riwayat mein hai, aap ne awaz di ''Banu Abd e Mannaf! Meri aur tumhari misaal is shaks ki tarah hai jis ne dushman ko dekha to woh apne ahl o ayaal ko bachane chala to use andesha hua ke woh (dushman) is par sabaqat le jayenge to woh (dushman ki ittila dene ke liye) zor zor se kehta hai: Ya Sabaha.'' Muttafiq alaih.
وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ (وَأَنْذِرْ عشيرتك الْأَقْرَبين)\صَعِدَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الصَّفَا فَجَعَلَ يُنَادِي: «يَا بَنِي فِهْرٍ يَا بَنِي عَدِيٍّ» لِبُطُونِ قُرَيْشٍ حَتَّى اجْتَمَعُوا فَقَالَ: «أَرَأَيْتَكُمْ لَوْ أَخْبَرْتُكُمْ أَنَّ خَيْلًا بِالْوَادِي تُرِيدُ أَنْ تُغِيرَ عَلَيْكُمْ أَكُنْتُمْ مُصَدِّقِيَّ؟ » قَالُوا: نَعَمْ مَا جَرَّبْنَا عَلَيْكَ إِلَّا صِدْقًا. قَالَ: «فَإِنِّي نَذِيرٌ لَكُمْ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌ» . فَقَالَ أَبُو لَهَبٍ: تَبًّا لَكَ سَائِرَ الْيَوْمَ أَلِهَذَا جَمَعْتَنَا؟ فَنَزَلَتْ: (تَبَّتْ يَدَا أَبِي لَهَبٍ وَتَبَّ)\مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ. وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ نَادَى: «يَا بَنِي عَبْدِ مَنَافٍ إِنَّمَا مَثَلِي وَمَثَلُكُمْ كَمَثَلِ رَجُلٍ رَأَى الْعَدُوَّ فَانْطَلَقَ يَرْبَأُ أَهْلَهُ فَخَشِيَ أَنْ يسبقوه فَجعل يَهْتِف يَا صَبَاحَاه»\
