Description of the virtues of Hazrat Umar (RA)
بيان مناقب حضرة عمر رضي الله عنه
Mishkat al-Masabih 6038
Abu Saeed Khudri (RA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "I was sleeping and I saw that the people were presented before me and they were wearing shirts. The shirt of one of them reached his chest, while the shirt of another was shorter than that. `Umar bin Al-Khattab was brought to me and his shirt was so long that he was dragging it (while walking)." They (the Companions) said, "O Messenger of Allah! What did you interpret this to be?" He (ﷺ) said, "(This represents) the religion." (Sunan Abi Dawud 4402)

ابوسعید ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ میں سو رہا تھا کہ میں نے لوگوں کو دیکھا کہ وہ میرے سامنے پیش کیے گئے ہیں ، ان پر قمیصیں تھیں ، ان میں سے کسی کی قمیص سینے تک پہنچتی تھی ، کسی کی اس سے چھوٹی تھی ، عمر بن خطاب ؓ مجھ پر پیش کیے گئے ، ان پر جو قمیص تھی وہ (چلتے وقت) اسے گھسیٹتے تھے ۔‘‘ صحابہ ؓ نے عرض کیا : اللہ کے رسول ! آپ نے اس کی کیا تاویل فرمائی ہے ؟ آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ (اس سے) دین مراد ہے ۔‘‘ متفق علیہ ۔
Abusaid bayan karte hain, Rasool Allah ne farmaya: ''Main so raha tha keh maine logon ko dekha keh woh mere samne pesh kiye gaye hain, un par qamisen thin, in mein se kisi ki qamis sine tak pahunchti thi, kisi ki is se chhoti thi, Umar bin Khattab mujh par pesh kiye gaye, un par jo qamis thi woh (chalte waqt) ise ghaseette the.'' Sahaba ne arz kiya: Allah ke Rasool! Aap ne is ki kya taweel farmaai hai? Aap ne farmaya: ''(Is se) Deen murad hai.'' Muttafiq alaih.
وَعَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسلم يَقُول: «بَيْنَا أَنَا نَائِمٌ رَأَيْتُ النَّاسَ يُعْرَضُونَ عَلَيَّ وَعَلَيْهِمْ قُمُصٌ مِنْهَا مَا يَبْلُغُ الثُّدِيَّ وَمِنْهَا مَا دُونَ ذَلِكَ وَعُرِضَ عَلَيَّ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ وَعَلَيْهِ قَمِيصٌ يَجُرُّهُ» قَالُوا: فَمَا أَوَّلْتَ ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ: «الدِّينَ» . مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ
