Chapter: Clarifying the emphatic prohibition of An-Namimah (Malicious Gossip)

باب بَيَانِ غِلَظِ تَحْرِيمِ النَّمِيمَةِ ‏‏

Sahih Muslim 105a

It is reported from Hudhaifa (رضي الله تعالى عنه) that news reached him that a certain man carried tales. Upon this Hudhaifa (رضي الله تعالى عنه) remarked : I heard Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) saying : The tale-bearer shall not enter Paradise.

حضرت حذیفہ ؓ کو پتا چلا ایک آدمی لگائی بجھائی کرتا ہے تو حذیفہ ؓ نے کہا: میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سنا ہے کہ ”چغل خور جنّت میں داخل نہیں ہوگا۔“

Hazrat Huzaifa (Radhi Allahu Anhu) ko pata chala ek aadmi lagayi-bujhayi karta hai to Huzaifa (Radhi Allahu Anhu) ne kaha: main ne Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) se suna hai ke "chughal-khor jannat mein dakhil nahi hoga."

وَحَدَّثَنِي شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخَ، وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَسْمَاءَ الضُّبَعِيُّ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا مَهْدِيٌّ، - وَهُوَ ابْنُ مَيْمُونٍ - حَدَّثَنَا وَاصِلٌ الأَحْدَبُ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ، أَنَّهُ بَلَغَهُ أَنَّ رَجُلاً، يَنِمُّ الْحَدِيثَ فَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ لاَ يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ نَمَّامٌ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

Sahih Muslim 105b

It is reported on the authority of Hammam bin al-Harith (رضي الله تعالى عنه) that a man used to carry tales to the Governor. When we were sitting in the mosque, the people said : He is the one who carries tales to the Governor. He (the narrator) said : Then he came and sat with us. Thereupon Hudhaifa (رضي الله تعالى عنه) remarked : I heard the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) saying : The beater of false tales would never enter heaven.

ہمام بن حارثؒ بیان کرتے ہیں: کہ ایک آدمی لوگوں کی باتیں حاکم تک پہنچاتا تھا، ہم مسجد میں بیٹھے ہوئے تھے، تو لوگوں نے کہا: یہ ان میں سے ہے جو باتیں حاکم تک پہنچاتے ہیں، اور وہ آکر ہمارے پاس بیٹھ گیا۔ حذیفہ ؓ فرمانے لگے میں نے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سنا ہے: ”لگائی بجھائی کرنے والا جنّت میں داخل نہیں ہو گا۔“

Hammam bin al-Haris (Rahmatullahi Alaih) bayan karte hain: ke ek aadmi logon ki baatein hakim tak pohanchata tha, hum masjid mein baithe hue thay, to logon ne kaha: yeh un mein se hai jo baatein hakim tak pohanchate hain, aur woh aakar hamare pas baith gaya. Huzaifa (Radhi Allahu Anhu) farmane lage main ne Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) se suna hai: "lagayi-bujhayi karne wala jannat mein dakhil nahi ho ga."

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ السَّعْدِيُّ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ هَمَّامِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، قَالَ كَانَ رَجُلٌ يَنْقُلُ الْحَدِيثَ إِلَى الأَمِيرِ فَكُنَّا جُلُوسًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَقَالَ الْقَوْمُ هَذَا مِمَّنْ يَنْقُلُ الْحَدِيثَ إِلَى الأَمِيرِ ‏.‏ قَالَ فَجَاءَ حَتَّى جَلَسَ إِلَيْنَا ‏.‏ فَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ لاَ يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ قَتَّاتٌ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

Sahih Muslim 105c

It is narrated on the authority of Hammam bin al-Harith (رضي الله تعالى عنه) : We were sitting with Hudhaifa (رضي الله تعالى عنه) in the mosque. A man came and sat along with us. It was said to Hudhaifa (رضي الله تعالى عنه) that he was the man who carried tales to the ruler. Hudhaifa (رضي الله تعالى عنه) remarked with the intention of conveying to him : I have heard the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) saying : The tale-bearer will not enter Paradise.

ہمام بن حارثؒ سے روایت ہے کہ ہم مسجد میں بیٹھے ہوئے تھے تو ایک آدمی آکر ہمارے پاس بیٹھ گیا۔ حذیفہ ؓ کو بتایا گیا کہ یہ انسان بادشاہ تک لوگوں کی باتیں پہنچاتا ہے، تو حذیفہ ؓ نے اس کو سنانے کے لیے کہا: میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سنا ہے کہ: ”چغل خور جنّت میں داخل نہیں ہو گا۔“

Hammam bin al-Haris (Rahmatullahi Alaih) se riwayat hai ke hum masjid mein baithe hue thay to ek aadmi aakar hamare pas baith gaya. Huzaifa (Radhi Allahu Anhu) ko bataya gaya ke yeh insan badshah tak logon ki baatein pohanchata hai, to Huzaifa (Radhi Allahu Anhu) ne is ko sunane ke liye kaha: main ne Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) se suna hai ke: "chughal-khor jannat mein dakhil nahi ho ga."

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، وَوَكِيعٌ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مِنْجَابُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ التَّمِيمِيُّ، - وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ - أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ مُسْهِرٍ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ هَمَّامِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، قَالَ كُنَّا جُلُوسًا مَعَ حُذَيْفَةَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ حَتَّى جَلَسَ إِلَيْنَا فَقِيلَ لِحُذَيْفَةَ إِنَّ هَذَا يَرْفَعُ إِلَى السُّلْطَانِ أَشْيَاءَ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ - إِرَادَةَ أَنْ يُسْمِعَهُ - سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ لاَ يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ قَتَّاتٌ ‏"‏ ‏.‏
