Chapter: When it is permissible to shed the blood of a muslim

باب مَا يُبَاحُ بِهِ دَمُ الْمُسْلِمِ ‏‏

Sahih Muslim 1676a

Abdullah bin Mas'ud (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) as saying, it is not permissible to take the life of a Muslim who bears testimony to the fact that there is no god but Allah, and I am the Apostle of Allah, but in one of the three cases, (i) the married adulterer, (ii) a life for life, and (iii) the deserter of his Din (Islam), abandoning the community.

حضرت عبداللہ (بن مسعود) رضی اللہ تعالی عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”کسی مسلمان کا خون بہانا جو لا اله الا اللہ

Hazrat Abdullah (bin Mas'ood) (Radi Allahu Anhu) bayan karte hain ke Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: 'Kisi musalman ka khoon bahana jo La ilaha illallah (ki shahadat deta ho)...'

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ، وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ وَوَكِيعٌ عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ "‏ لاَ يَحِلُّ دَمُ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ يَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ إِلاَّ بِإِحْدَى ثَلاَثٍ الثَّيِّبُ الزَّانِ وَالنَّفْسُ بِالنَّفْسِ وَالتَّارِكُ لِدِينِهِ الْمُفَارِقُ لِلْجَمَاعَةِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

This Hadith has been narrated on the authority of A'mash.

امام صاحب یہی روایت اپنے چار اساتذہ کی تین سندوں سے، اعمش ہی کی مذکورہ بالا سے بیان کرتے ہیں۔

Imam Sahab yehi riwayat apne char ustadon ki teen sanadon se, A'mash hi ki mazkurah bala se bayan karte hain.

حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ح، وَحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ خَشْرَمٍ، قَالاَ أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ، كُلُّهُمْ عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ ‏.‏

Sahih Muslim 1676c

Abdullah bin Mas'ud (رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) stood up and said, by Him besides Whom there is no god but He, the blood of a Muslim who bears the testimony that there is no god but Allah, and I am His Apostle, may be lawfully shed only in case of three persons, (i) the one who abandons Islam, and deserts the community (Ahmad, one of the narrators, is doubtful whether the Prophet ﷺ used the word ل لْجَمَاعَة or َالْجَمَاعَة), and (ii) the married adulterer, and (iii) life for life.

حضرت عبداللہ رضی اللہ تعالی عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ہمیں خطاب کرتے ہوئے فرمایا: ”اس ذات کی قسم جس کے سوا کوئی لائق بندگی نہیں، جو مسلمان لا الہ الا اللہ کی شہادت و گواہی دیتا ہے، مجھے اللہ کا رسول مانتا ہے، اس کو قتل کرنا جائز نہیں ہے، مگر تین قسم کے افراد کو، اسلام کو چھوڑنے والا، جماعت سے یعنی مسلمانوں سے الگ ہونے والا، شادی شدہ ہو کر زنا کرنے والا، اور دوسرے کا قاتل (جان کے بدلے جان)۔“

Hazrat Abdullah (Radi Allahu Anhu) bayan karte hain ke Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne humein khitab karte hue farmaya: 'Us dhaat ki qasam jis ke siwa koi laiq-e-bandagi nahi, jo musalman La ilaha illallah ki shahadat o gawahi deta hai, mujhe Allah ka Rasul (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) manta hai, us ko qatl karna jaiz nahi hai, magar teen qism ke afraad ko: Islam ko chorne wala, jama'at se yani musalmanon se alag hone wala, shadi shuda ho kar zina karne wala, aur doosre ka qatil (jaan ke badle jaan).'

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، - وَاللَّفْظُ لأَحْمَدَ - قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ قَامَ فِينَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ ‏ "‏ وَالَّذِي لاَ إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ لاَ يَحِلُّ دَمُ رَجُلٍ مُسْلِمٍ يَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ إِلاَّ ثَلاَثَةُ نَفَرٍ التَّارِكُ الإِسْلاَمَ الْمُفَارِقُ لِلْجَمَاعَةِ أَوِ الْجَمَاعَةَ - شَكَّ فِيهِ أَحْمَدُ - وَالثَّيِّبُ الزَّانِي وَالنَّفْسُ بِالنَّفْسِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ الأَعْمَشُ فَحَدَّثْتُ بِهِ، إِبْرَاهِيمَ فَحَدَّثَنِي عَنِ الأَسْوَدِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، بِمِثْلِهِ ‏.‏

Sahih Muslim 1676d

This Hadith has been reported on the authority of A'mash with the same chain of narrators but with a slight variation of words. He did not say, ‘by Him besides Whom there is no God.

امام صاحب یہی روایت اپنے دو اور اساتذہ کی سند سے بیان کرتے ہیں، لیکن اس میں والذى لا اله غيره

Imam Sahab yehi riwayat apne do aur ustadon ki sanad se bayan karte hain, lekin is mein 'Walladhi la ilaha ghairuhu' hai.

وَحَدَّثَنِي حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الشَّاعِرِ، وَالْقَاسِمُ بْنُ زَكَرِيَّاءَ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى، عَنْ شَيْبَانَ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، بِالإِسْنَادَيْنِ جَمِيعًا ‏.‏ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ سُفْيَانَ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرَا فِي الْحَدِيثِ قَوْلَهُ ‏ "‏ وَالَّذِي لاَ إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏
