Nu'man bin Bashir (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) narrated that as he was (sitting) near the pulpit of the Apostle of Allah (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم), a man said, I do not care if, after embracing Islam, I do not do any good deed (except) distributing drinking water among the pilgrims. Another said, I do not care if, after embracing Islam, I do not do any good deed beyond maintenance service to the Sacred Mosque. Another said, Jihad in the way of Allah is better than what you have said. Umar (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) reprimanded them and said, do not raise your voices near the pulpit of the Apostle of Allah (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم) on Friday. When prayer was over, I entered (the apartment of the Prophet ﷺ) and asked his verdict about the matter in which they had differed. (It was upon this that) Allah, the Almighty and Exalted, revealed the Qur'anic verse, ‘Do you consider providing water to the pilgrims and serving the Sacred Mosque as equal in value to one who believes in Allah and the Last Day, and strives in Allah's cause? They are not equal in Allah's sight. And Allah does not guide the oppressing folk.’ (At-Tawba - 19).
حضرت نعمان بن بشیر رضی اللہ تعالی عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے منبر کے پاس موجود تھا کہ ایک آدمی نے کہا، مجھے اسلام لانے کے بعد حاجیوں کو پانی پلانے کے سوا کوئی عمل نہ کروں تو کوئی پرواہ نہیں ہے، دوسرے شخص نے کہا، اگر میں اسلام لانے کے بعد مسجد حرام کی آبادی کے سوا کوئی عمل نہ کروں تو کوئی پرواہ نہیں ہے، تیسرے نے کہا، جو کچھ تم نے کہا، جہاد اس سے افضل ہے، تو حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالی عنہ نے ان کو ڈانٹا اور فرمایا: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے منبر کے پاس اپنی آوازوں کو بلند نہ کرو اور یہ جمعہ کا دن تھا، لیکن جب میں جمعہ پڑھ لوں گا، آپ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہو کر جس میں تم اختلاف کر رہے ہو، اس کے بارے میں دریافت کروں گا، تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مجھے اللہ تعالیٰ کا یہ فرمان سنایا ”کیا تم نے حاجیوں کو پانی پلانا اور مسجد حرام کو آباد کرنا، اس شخص کے عمل کے برابر قرار دیا ہے، جو اللہ اور آخرت پر ایمان لایا اور اللہ کی راہ میں جہاد کیا“۔۔۔
Hazrat Nu'man bin Bashir (Razi Allahu Anhu) bayan karte hain ke main Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke minbar ke paas maujood tha ke ek aadmi ne kaha, mujhe Islam laane ke baad hajiyon ko pani pilane ke siwa koi amal na karoon to koi parwah nahi hai, doosre shakhs ne kaha, agar main Islam laane ke baad Masjid e Haram ki aabadi ke siwa koi amal na karoon to koi parwah nahi hai, teesre ne kaha, jo kuch tumne kaha, Jihad usse afzal hai, to Hazrat Umar (Razi Allahu Anhu) ne unko daanta aur farmaya: Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke minbar ke paas apni awaazon ko buland na karo aur yeh Jumma ka din tha, lekin jab main Jumma padh loonga, Aap ki khidmat mein haazir ho kar jis mein tum ikhtilaf kar rahe ho, uske bare mein daryaft karunga, to Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne mujhe Allah Ta'ala ka yeh farmaan sunaya "Kya tumne hajiyon ko pani pilana aur Masjid e Haram ko aabad karna, us shakhs ke amal ke barabar qaraar diya hai, jo Allah aur Akhirat par iman laya aur Allah ki raah mein Jihad kiya"
