Chapter: It Is Disliked To Pray For Punishment To Be Brought Forward In This World

باب كَرَاهَةِ الدُّعَاءِ بِتَعْجِيلِ الْعُقُوبَةِ فِي الدُّنْيَا

Sahih Muslim 2688a

Anas ( رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported that Allah's Apostle (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) visited a person from amongst the Muslims to inquire (about his health) who had grown feeble like the chicken. Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, did you supplicate for anything or beg of Him about that? He said, yes. I used to utter (these words), impose punishment upon me earlier in this world, what You are going to impose upon me in the Hereafter. Thereupon Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, hallowed be Allah, you have neither the power nor forbearance to take upon yourself (the burden of His Punishment). Why did you not say this, O Allah, grant us good in the world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the torment of Fire. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) made this supplication (for him) and he was all right.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْخَطَّابِ، زِيَادُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْحَسَّانِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَادَ رَجُلاً مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ قَدْ خَفَتَ فَصَارَ مِثْلَ الْفَرْخِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ هَلْ كُنْتَ تَدْعُو بِشَىْءٍ أَوْ تَسْأَلُهُ إِيَّاهُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ نَعَمْ كُنْتُ أَقُولُ اللَّهُمَّ مَا كُنْتَ مُعَاقِبِي بِهِ فِي الآخِرَةِ فَعَجِّلْهُ لِي فِي الدُّنْيَا ‏.‏ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ لاَ تُطِيقُهُ - أَوْ لاَ تَسْتَطِيعُهُ - أَفَلاَ قُلْتَ اللَّهُمَّ آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ فَدَعَا اللَّهَ لَهُ فَشَفَاهُ ‏.‏

Sahih Muslim 2688b

This Hadith has been narrated on the authority of Humaid with the same chain of transmitters, but with a slight variation of wording.

امام صاحب یہی روایت ایک اور استاد سے بیان کرتے ہیں، اس میں صحت یابی کی دعا کا ذکر نہیں ہے۔

Imam Sahib yahi riwayat ek aur ustad se bayan karte hain, is mein sehatyabi ki dua ka zikr nahin hai.

حَدَّثَنَاهُ عَاصِمُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ التَّيْمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ، بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ إِلَى قَوْلِهِ ‏ "‏ وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرِ الزِّيَادَةَ ‏.‏

Sahih Muslim 2688c

Anas ( رضي الله تعالى عنه) reported that Allah's Apostle (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) visited a person from amongst his Companions who had grown as feeble as the chicken. The rest of the Hadith is the same, but with this variation that the Prophet (صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) said, you have not power enough to undergo the torment imposed by Allah. And there is no mention of, he supplicated Allah for him and He cured him.

حضرت انس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اپنے ساتھیوں میں سے ایک آدمی کی بیمار پرسی کے لیے تشریف لے گئے اور وہ چوزہ کی طرح (کمزوروناتواں)ہو چکا تھا،آگے مذکورہ بالا حدیث ہے، صرف اتنا فرق ہے کہ آپ نے فرمایا:"تیرے اندر اللہ کا عذاب جھیلنے کی طاقت نہیں ہے۔"اور اس کی صحت یابی کی دعا کا ذکر نہیں ہے۔

Hazrat Anas (Raziyallahu Anhu) se riwayat hai ki Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) apne saathiyon mein se ek aadmi ki beemar pursi ke liye tashreef le gaye aur woh chooza ki tarah (kamzor wa natawan) ho chuka tha, aage mazkurah bala hadith hai, sirf itna farq hai ki Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: "Tere andar Allah ka azab jhelne ki taqat nahin hai." Aur us ki sehatyabi ki dua ka zikr nahin hai.

وَحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، أَخْبَرَنَا ثَابِتٌ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّعليه وسلم دَخَلَ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ يَعُودُهُ وَقَدْ صَارَ كَالْفَرْخِ ‏.‏ بِمَعْنَى حَدِيثِ حُمَيْدٍ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ ‏ "‏ لاَ طَاقَةَ لَكَ بِعَذَابِ اللَّهِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ فَدَعَا اللَّهَ لَهُ فَشَفَاهُ ‏.‏

Sahih Muslim 2688d

This Hadith had been transmitted on the authority of Anas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) through another chain of narrators.

امام صاحب دو اور اساتذہ سے یہی روایت بیان کرتے ہیں۔

Imam Sahib do aur asatizah se yahi riwayat bayan karte hain.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، وَابْنُ، بَشَّارٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا سَالِمُ بْنُ نُوحٍ الْعَطَّارُ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ، بْنِ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ ‏.‏
