Sahih Muslim 120a
It is narrated on the authority of Abdullah bin Mas'ud (رضي الله تعالى عنه) that some people said to the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) : O' Apostle of Allah ( صلى هللا عليه و آلهوسلم), would we be held responsible for our deeds committed in the state of ignorance (before embracing Islam)? Upon his he (the Prophet ﷺ) remarked : He who among you performed good deeds in Islam, He would not be held responsible for them (misdeeds which he committed in ignorance) and he who committed evil (even after embracing Islam) would be held responsible for his misdeeds that he committed in the state of ignorance as well as in that of Islam.
حضرت عبداللہ ؓ سے روایت ہے کہ کچھ لوگوں نے پوچھا: اے اللہ کے رسولؐ! کیا ہمارے جاہلیت کے عملوں پر مواخذہ ہو گا؟ آپؐ نے فرمایا: ”جس نے اسلام لانے کے بعد اچھے اعمال کیے اس کے جاہلیت کے اعمال کا مواخذہ نہیں ہوگا، اور جس نے برے عمل کیے اس کے جاہلیت اور اسلام دونوں کے اعمال کا مواخذہ ہو گا۔“
Hazrat Abdullah (Radi Allahu Anhu) se riwayat hai ke kuch logon ne poocha: Ae Allah ke Rasul (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam)! Kya hamare jahiliyat ke amalon par muakhaza hoga? Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) ne farmaya: "Jis ne Islam lane ke baad achhe aamaal kiye us ke jahiliyat ke aamaal ka muakhaza nahi hoga, aur jis ne bure amal kiye us ke jahiliyat aur Islam dono ke aamaal ka muakhaza hoga."
حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ قَالَ أُنَاسٌ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَنُؤَاخَذُ بِمَا عَمِلْنَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ قَالَ " أَمَّا مَنْ أَحْسَنَ مِنْكُمْ فِي الإِسْلاَمِ فَلاَ يُؤَاخَذُ بِهَا وَمَنْ أَسَاءَ أُخِذَ بِعَمَلِهِ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ وَالإِسْلاَمِ " .
