Chapter: Prohibiting one who has eaten garlic, onions, or leeks, and other things that have an offensive odor from coming to the masjid, until that smell has gone away, and such a person should be expelled from the masjid

Sahih Muslim 565
Abu Sa'id reported:We made no transgression but Khaybar was conquered. We, the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), fell upon this plant. i e. garlic. because the people were hungry. We ate it to our heart's content and then made our way towards the mosque. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sensed its odour and he said: He who takes anything of this offensive plant must not approach us in the mosque. The people said: Its (use) has been forbidden; its (use) bu been forbidden. This reached the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and he said: O people, I cannot forbid (the use of a thing) which Allah has made lawful, but (this garlic) is a plant the odour of which is repugnant to me.
حضرت ابو سعید رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ ہم خیبر کی فتح سے آگے نہیں بڑھے تھے کہ ہم رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھی لہسن کی ترکاری پر ٹوٹ پڑے کیونکہ لوگ بھوکے تھے اور ہم نے اسے خوب پیٹ بھر کر کھایا، پھر ہم مسجد کی طرف گئے تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے بدبو محسوس فرمائی تو فرمایا: ”جس نے اس ناپسندیدہ (خبیث) پودے سے کچھ کھایا وہ ہماری مسجد میں ہمارے قریب نہ آئے۔“ تو لوگوں نے کہا، لہسن حرام قرار دیا گیا، حرام ہو گیا، یہ بات نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم تک پہنچی تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”اے لوگو! اللہ نے جو کچھ میرے لیے حلال کر دیا ہے میں اس کو حرام نہیں کر سکتا، لیکن یہ ایک پودا ہے میں اس کی بو کو ناپسند کرتا ہوں۔“
Hazrat Abu Saeed (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) se riwayat hai ke hum Khaibar ki fat'h se aage nahi barhe thay ke hum Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) ke saathi lehsun ki tarkari par toot pare kyunke log bhooke thay aur hum ne usay khoob pait bhar kar khaya, phir hum masjid ki taraf gaye to Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) ne bad-bu mehsoos farmayi to farmaya: ‘Jis ne is napasandida (khabeeth) paude se kuch khaya wo hamari masjid mein hamare qareeb na aaye.’ To logon ne kaha, lehsun haram qarar diya gaya, haram ho gaya, yeh baat Nabi Akram (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) tak pahunchi to Aap (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) ne farmaya: ‘Aye logo! Allah ne jo kuch mere liye halal kar diya hai main is ko haram nahi kar sakta, lekin yeh ek pauda hai main is ki bu ko napasand karta hoon.’
وَحَدَّثَنِي عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ، عَنِ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ لَمْ نَعْدُ أَنْ فُتِحَتْ، خَيْبَرُ فَوَقَعْنَا أَصْحَابَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي تِلْكَ الْبَقْلَةِ الثُّومِ وَالنَّاسُ جِيَاعٌ فَأَكَلْنَا مِنْهَا أَكْلاً شَدِيدًا ثُمَّ رُحْنَا إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ فَوَجَدَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم الرِّيحَ فَقَالَ " مَنْ أَكَلَ مِنْ هَذِهِ الشَّجَرَةِ الْخَبِيثَةِ شَيْئًا فَلاَ يَقْرَبَنَّا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ " . فَقَالَ النَّاسُ حُرِّمَتْ حُرِّمَتْ . فَبَلَغَ ذَاكَ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ " أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ بِي تَحْرِيمُ مَا أَحَلَّ اللَّهُ لِي وَلَكِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌ أَكْرَهُ رِيحَهَا " .
