Sahih Muslim 822d
Abu Wa'il narrated ‘one day we went to Abdullah bin Mas'ud (رضي الله تعالى عنه) after we had observed the dawn prayer and we paid salutation at the door. He permitted us to enter, but we stayed for a while at the door, when the slave-girl came out and said, why don't you come in? So, we went in and (we found Abdullah bin Mas'ud (رضي الله تعالى عنه) sitting and glorifying Allah (busy in dhikr) and he said, ‘what obstructed you from coming in though you had been granted permission for it? We said, there was nothing (behind it) but we entertained the idea that some inmate of the house might be sleeping. He said, do you presume any idleness on the part of the family of Ibn Umm Abd (رضي الله تعالى عنها) (the mother of Abdullah b. Mas'ud رضي الله تعالى عنه)? He was again busy with the glorification of Allah till he thought that the sun had risen. He said, ‘girl, see whether (the sun) has arisen. She glanced but it had not risen (by that time). He was again busy with the glorification (of Allah) and he (again) thought that the sun had arisen. She glanced (and confirmed) that, it had risen. Upon this Abdullah bin Mas'ud (رضي الله تعالى عنه) said, praise be to Allah Who did not call us to account for our sins today. Mahdi said, ‘I think that he said, He did not destroy us for our sins’. One among the people said, I recited all the Mufassal surah during the night. Abdullah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) said, (you must have recited them) like the (recitation) of poetry. I heard (the Prophet ﷺ) combining (the sarah) and I remember the combinations which the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) made in the recitation (of surah). These were constituted of eighteen Mufassal surah and two surah (commencing with) Ha-Mim.
ابووائل بیان کرتے ہیں کہ ایک دن ہم صبح کی نماز پڑھنے کے بعد عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوئے، ہم نے دروازے پر ٹھہر کر السلام علیکم کہا، انھوں نے ہمیں اجازت دے دی، اور ہم کچھ وقت کے لئے دروازے پر رک گئے، تو ایک لونڈی آئی اور اس نے آ کر کہا: داخل کیوں نہیں ہوتے؟ تو ہم اندر چلے گئے، اور وہ بیٹھے تسبیحات پڑھ رہے تھے،اور انھوں نے پوچھا، جب میں نے تمہیں اجازت دے دی تھی تو پھر تمارے لئے داخلہ میں کون سی چیز رکاوٹ بنی؟ ہم نے عرض کیا، رکاوٹ تو کوئی نہیں تھی، ہم نے سوچا شاید گھر کے بعض افراد سوئے ہوئے ہوں۔ انھوں نے فرمایا: تم نے ام عبد کے بیٹے کے گھر والوں کے متعلق غفلت کا گمان کیا؟ پھر وہ تسبیح کرنے میں مشغول ہوگئے حتیٰ کہ انھوں نے خیال کیا کہ سورج نکل آیا ہے تو فرمایا، اے لوںڈی! دیکھو! کیا سورج نکل آیا ہے؟ اس نے دیکھا، ابھی سورج نہیں نکلا تھا، وہ پھر تسبیح میں مشغول ہو گئے حتیٰ کہ انھوں نے خیال کیا کہ سورج طلوع ہوگیا ہے تو کہا، اے لوںڈی! دیکھو کیا سورج طلوع ہو گیا ہے، اس نے د یکھا تو سورج طلوع ہو چکا ہے، تو انھوں نے کہا،شکریہ کے لائق اللہ ہے جس نے یہ دن لوٹا دیا۔ مہدی کہتے ہیں: میرے خیال میں انھوں نے یہ بھی کہا۔۔۔ ہمارے گناہوں کی پاداش میں ہمیں ہلاک نہیں کیا۔ لوگوں میں سے ایک آدمی نے کہا، میں نے کل رات تمام مفصل سورتوں کی تلاوت کی، اس پر عبداللہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہا تیز جس طرح شعر تیزی سے نقل کئے جاتے ہیں؟ ہم نے ملتی جلتی سورتیں نقل کی ہیں اور مجھے وہ جو ڑے یاد ہیں جنھیں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم پڑھا کرتے تھے، مفصل میں سے اٹھارہ سورتیں اور حمٰ والی دو۔
Abu Wa'il bayan karte hain ke ek din hum subah ki namaz parhne ke baad Abdullah bin Mas'ud (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) ki khidmat mein hazir hue, hum ne darwaze par thehar kar Assalamu Alaikum kaha, unhon ne humein ijazat de di, aur hum kuch waqt ke liye darwaze par ruk gaye, to ek laundi aayi aur us ne aa kar kaha: Dakhil kyun nahi hote? To hum andar chale gaye, aur wo baithe tasbeehat parh rahe thay, aur unhon ne pucha, jab mein ne tumhein ijazat de di thi to phir tumhare liye dakhla mein kaun si cheez rukawat bani? Hum ne arz kiya, rukawat to koi nahi thi, hum ne socha shayad ghar ke baaz afraad soye hue hon. Unhon ne farmaya: Tum ne Umm-e-Abd ke betay ke ghar walon ke mutaliq ghaflat ka guman kiya? Phir wo tasbeeh karne mein mashghool ho gaye hatta ke unhon ne khayal kiya ke suraj nikal aaya hai to farmaya, Ae laundi! dekho! kya suraj nikal aaya hai? Us ne dekha, abhi suraj nahi nikla tha, wo phir tasbeeh mein mashghool ho gaye hatta ke unhon ne khayal kiya ke suraj tulu ho gaya hai to kaha, Ae laundi! dekho kya suraj tulu ho gaya hai, us ne dekha to suraj tulu ho chuka hai, to unhon ne kaha, shukriya ke layiq Allah hai jis ne ye din lauta diya. Mahdi kehte hain: Mere khayal mein unhon ne ye bhi kaha... hamare gunahon ki padas mein humein halak nahi kiya. Logon mein se ek aadmi ne kaha, mein ne kal raat tamam mufassal surton ki tilawat ki, is par Abdullah (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu) ne kaha tez jis tarah sher tezi se naqal kiye jatay hain? Hum ne milti julti surtein naqal ki hain aur mujhe wo jore yaad hain jinhein Rasul Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) parha karte thay, mufassal mein se atthara surtein aur Ha-Meem wali do.
حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخَ، حَدَّثَنَا مَهْدِيُّ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ، حَدَّثَنَا وَاصِلٌ الأَحْدَبُ، عَنْ أَبِي، وَائِلٍ قَالَ غَدَوْنَا عَلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ يَوْمًا بَعْدَ مَا صَلَّيْنَا الْغَدَاةَ فَسَلَّمْنَا بِالْبَابِ فَأَذِنَ لَنَا - قَالَ - فَمَكَثْنَا بِالْبَابِ هُنَيَّةً - قَالَ - فَخَرَجَتِ الْجَارِيَةُ فَقَالَتْ أَلاَ تَدْخُلُونَ فَدَخَلْنَا فَإِذَا هُوَ جَالِسٌ يُسَبِّحُ فَقَالَ مَا مَنَعَكُمْ أَنْ تَدْخُلُوا وَقَدْ أُذِنَ لَكُمْ فَقُلْنَا لاَ إِلاَّ أَنَّا ظَنَنَّا أَنَّ بَعْضَ أَهْلِ الْبَيْتِ نَائِمٌ . قَالَ ظَنَنْتُمْ بِآلِ ابْنِ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ غَفْلَةً قَالَ ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ يُسَبِّحُ حَتَّى ظَنَّ أَنَّ الشَّمْسَ قَدْ طَلَعَتْ فَقَالَ يَا جَارِيَةُ انْظُرِي هَلْ طَلَعَتْ قَالَ فَنَظَرَتْ فَإِذَا هِيَ لَمْ تَطْلُعْ فَأَقْبَلَ يُسَبِّحُ حَتَّى إِذَا ظَنَّ أَنَّ الشَّمْسَ قَدْ طَلَعَتْ قَالَ يَا جَارِيَةُ انْظُرِي هَلْ طَلَعَتْ فَنَظَرَتْ فَإِذَا هِيَ قَدْ طَلَعَتْ . فَقَالَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَقَالَنَا يَوْمَنَا هَذَا - فَقَالَ مَهْدِيٌّ وَأَحْسِبُهُ قَالَ - وَلَمْ يُهْلِكْنَا بِذُنُوبِنَا - قَالَ - فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ قَرَأْتُ الْمُفَصَّلَ الْبَارِحَةَ كُلَّهُ - قَالَ - فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ هَذًّا كَهَذِّ الشِّعْرِ إِنَّا لَقَدْ سَمِعْنَا الْقَرَائِنَ وَإِنِّي لأَحْفَظُ الْقَرَائِنَ الَّتِي كَانَ يَقْرَؤُهُنَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ثَمَانِيَةَ عَشَرَ مِنَ الْمُفَصَّلِ وَسُورَتَيْنِ مِنْ آلِ حم.
