Incident of the acceptance of Islam by Amir al-Mu'minin, Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him)

Imam Hakim Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz, while dictating in 402 AH, said: There is a difference of opinion regarding the time of your allegiance. Some have said: The allegiance to Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was pledged four days after the martyrdom of Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). Some have said that the allegiance was pledged after five days. Some have said: After 3 days, and some have said that the allegiance was pledged on the 25th of Dhul-Hijjah on Friday. Some have said that the allegiance was pledged in the house of Amr ibn Muhammad al-Ansari (who is one of the descendants of Bani Amr ibn Mabdhul) immediately after the martyrdom of Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). However, the most authentic narration is that Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) refused to take the allegiance until the burial of Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). (Then when he was buried) Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) sat on the pulpit of the Messenger and took the allegiance publicly. And the first to pledge allegiance was Talha (may Allah be pleased with him). And he said while pledging allegiance, "This is an allegiance that will be broken."
امام حاکم ابوعبداللہ الحافظ نے سن 402 ہجری میں املاء کرواتے ہوئے فرمایا : آپ کی شہادت کے وقت میں اختلاف ہے ۔ بعض نے یہ کہا ہے : حضرت عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ کی شہادت کے چار دن بعد حضرت علی رضی اللہ عنہ کی بیعت کر لی گئی تھی ۔ بعض نے کہا ہے کہ پانچ دن بعد بیعت کی گئی ۔ بعض نے کہا : 3 دن بعد ، اور بعض نے کہا ہے کہ 25 ذوالحجہ بروز جمعۃ المبارک کو بیعت کی گئی ۔ بعض نے کہا ہے کہ حضرت عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ کی شہادت کے فوراً بعد عمرو بن محمد الانصاری ( جو کہ بنی عمرو بن مبذول کی اولادوں میں سے ایک ہے ) کے گھر میں بیعت کی گئی ۔ جبکہ سب سے صحیح تر روایت یہ ہے کہ حضرت علی رضی اللہ عنہ نے حضرت عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ کی تدفین تک بیعت سے انکار کئے رکھا ۔ ( پھر جب ان کی تدفین ہو گئی تو ) حضرت علی رضی اللہ عنہ نے منبر رسول پر بیٹھ کر اعلانیہ بیعت لی ۔ اور سب سے پہلے حضرت طلحہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیعت کی تھی ۔ اور انہوں نے بیعت کرتے ہوئے کہا تھا ۔ یہ بیعت ہے جو توڑ دی جائے گی ۔
Imam Hakim Abu Abdullah Al Hafiz ne san 402 Hijri mein imla karwate hue farmaya: Aap ki shahadat ke waqt mein ikhtilaf hai. Baaz ne ye kaha hai: Hazrat Usman Radi Allaho Anho ki shahadat ke chaar din baad Hazrat Ali Radi Allaho Anho ki bai't kar li gayi thi. Baaz ne kaha hai ki panch din baad bai't ki gayi. Baaz ne kaha: 3 din baad, aur baaz ne kaha hai ki 25 Zul-Hijjah بروز Juma tul Mubarak ko bai't ki gayi. Baaz ne kaha hai ki Hazrat Usman Radi Allaho Anho ki shahadat ke foran baad Amr bin Mohammad Al Ansari (jo ki Bani Amr bin Mabzool ki aulado mein se ek hai) ke ghar mein bai't ki gayi. Jabke sab se sahih tar riwayat ye hai ki Hazrat Ali Radi Allaho Anho ne Hazrat Usman Radi Allaho Anho ki tadfeen tak bai't se inkar kie rakha. (Phir jab unki tadfeen ho gayi to) Hazrat Ali Radi Allaho Anho ne minbar Rasul par baith kar elaniya bai't li. Aur sab se pehle Hazrat Talha Radi Allaho Anho ne bai't ki thi. Aur unhon ne bai't karte hue kaha tha. Ye bai't hai jo tod di jaye gi.
حَدَّثَنَا الْحَاكِمُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْحَافِظُ: إِمْلَاءً فِي شَعْبَانَ سَنَةَ اثْنَتَيْنِ وَأَرْبَعِ مِائَةٍ، قَالَ: " اخْتَلَفَتِ الرِّوَايَاتُ فِي وَقْتِهِ، فَقِيلَ: أَنَّهُ بُويِعَ بَعْدَ أَرْبَعَةِ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ قَتْلِ عُثْمَانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، وَقِيلَ بَعْدَ خَمْسٍ، وَقِيلَ بَعْدَ ثَلَاثٍ، وَقِيلَ بُويِعَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ لِخَمْسٍ بَقِينَ مِنْ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ، وَقِيلَ بُويِعَ عُقَيْبَ قَتْلِ عُثْمَانَ فِي دَارِ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ أَحَدِ بَنِي عَمْرِو بْنِ مَبْذُولٍ، وَأَصَحُّ الرِّوَايَاتِ أَنَّهُ امْتَنَعَ عَنِ الْبَيْعَةِ إِلَى أَنْ دُفِنَ عُثْمَانُ، ثُمَّ بُويِعَ عَلَى مِنْبَرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ظَاهِرًا، وَكَانَ أَوَّلُ مَنْ بَايَعَهُ طَلْحَةُ، فَقَالَ: هَذِهِ بَيْعَةُ تُنْكَثُ "
