Sunan an-Nasa'i 672
It was narrated that 'Uthman bin Abi Al-As (رضئ للا تعالی عنہ) said : "I said : 'O Apostle of Allah (صلى للا عليه و آله وسلم), make me the Imam of my people.' He said: 'You are their Imam, so consider the weakest among them and choose a Mu'adh-dhin who does not accept any payment for his Adhan.'"

عثمان بن ابی العاص رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! مجھے میرے قبیلے کا امام بنا دیجئیے، تو آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا: تم ان کے امام ہو ( لیکن ) ان کے کمزور لوگوں کی اقتداء کرنا ۱؎ اور ایسے شخص کو مؤذن رکھنا جو اپنی اذان پر اجرت نہ لے ۔
Usman bin Abi al-Aas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke main ne arz kiya: Allah ke Rasool! Mujhe mere qabile ka imam bana dijiye, to aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Tum un ke imam ho (lekin) un ke kamzor logoon ki iqtida karna aur aise shakhs ko mu'azzin rakhna jo apni azan par ijrat na le.
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ الْجُرَيْرِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلاَءِ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ، قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ اجْعَلْنِي إِمَامَ قَوْمِي . فَقَالَ " أَنْتَ إِمَامُهُمْ وَاقْتَدِ بِأَضْعَفِهِمْ وَاتَّخِذْ مُؤَذِّنًا لاَ يَأْخُذُ عَلَى أَذَانِهِ أَجْرًا " .
