Hazrat Jabir narrates that Hazrat Umar bin Khattab brought a page of the book of the People of the Book to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said, 'O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! I have found a very good book of the People of the Book.' The narrator says: You (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) became angry and said, 'O Ibn Khattab! Are you still surprised about this? By Allah, in whose grip is my life, I have certainly brought you a clear and bright religion. Do not ask the People of the Book about anything, for they will tell you the truth and you will deny it, or they will tell you falsehood and you will confirm it. By Allah, in whose grip is my life, if Moses were alive today, he would have no choice but to follow me.'
حضرت جابر فرماتے ہیں کہ حضرت عمر بن خطاب نبی کریم (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے پاس اہل کتاب کی کتاب کا کوئی صفحہ لائے اور فرمایا : یا رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) ! مجھے اہل کتاب کی ایک بہت اچھی کتاب ملی ہے۔ راوی کہتے ہیں : آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) غضبناک ہوگئے اور فرمایا : اے ابن خطاب ! کیا تم اس بارے میں ابھی حیرت زدہ ہو ؟ قسم ہے اس ذات کی جس کے قبضہ قدرت میں میری جان ہے کہ تحقیق میں تمہارے پاس واضح اور روشن دین لے کر آیا ہوں۔ تم اہل کتاب سے کسی بھی چیز کے متعلق سوال مت کرو کہ وہ تمہیں حق بات بتلائیں گے اور تم اس کو جھٹلا دو گے، یا وہ تمہیں باطل بات بتلائیں گے اور تم اس کی تصدیق کردو گے، قسم ہے اس ذات کی جس کے قبضہ قدرت میں میری جان ہے۔ اگر آج حضرت موسیٰ بھی زندہ ہوتے تو ان کے لیے میری اتباع کے سوا کوئی چارہ نہ ہوتا۔
Hazrat Jabir farmate hain keh Hazrat Umar bin Khattab Nabi Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke paas ahle kitaab ki kitaab ka koi safha laaye aur farmaya: Ya Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)! Mujhe ahle kitaab ki ek bahut acchi kitaab mili hai. Rawi kehte hain: Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ghazabnak hogaye aur farmaya: Aye Ibn Khattab! Kya tum is bare mein abhi hairat zada ho? Kasam hai is zaat ki jiske qabza qudrat mein meri jaan hai keh tahqeeq mein tumhare paas wazeh aur roshan deen lekar aaya hun. Tum ahle kitaab se kisi bhi cheez ke mutalliq sawal mat karo keh woh tumhen haq baat bataenge aur tum usko jhutla do gaye, ya woh tumhen baatil baat bataenge aur tum uski tasdeeq kar do gaye, kasam hai is zaat ki jiske qabza qudrat mein meri jaan hai. Agar aaj Hazrat Musa bhi zinda hote to unke liye meri ittaba ke siwa koi chara na hota.
Hazrat Ata bin Yasar narrates: "The Jews used to come to the Muslims and tell them things from their books, which the Muslims used to like. So, the Companions mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). So, he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'Do not confirm them, nor deny them. You people should just say: We believe in Allah, and what has been revealed to us and what has been revealed to you.' Until the end of the verse.
حضرت عطاء بن یسار فرماتے ہیں کہ یہودی مسلمانوں کے پاس آتے تھے اور ان کو اپنی کتابوں سے باتیں بتلایا کرتے جو مسلمانوں کو اچھی لگتی تھیں۔ پس صحابہ نے یہ بات رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے سامنے ذکر فرمائی۔ تو آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے ارشاد فرمایا : تم نہ ان کی تصدیق کرو اور نہ ہی ان کو جھٹلاؤ۔ تم یوں کہہ دیا کرو۔ ہم ایمان لائے اللہ پر ، اور اس چیز پر جو اس نے ہماری طرف نازل کی اور اس چیز پر جو اس نے تمہاری طرف نازل کی۔ آیت کے آخر تک۔
Hazrat Ata bin Yasar farmate hain keh yahoodi musalmanon ke pass ate thay aur un ko apni kitaabon se baaten batlaya karte jo musalmanon ko acchi lagti thin. Pas sahaba ne yeh baat Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke samne zikar farmai. To aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne irshad farmaya: Tum na un ki tasdeeq karo aur na hi un ko jhutlao. Tum yun keh diya karo. Hum eman laye Allah per, aur us cheez per jo usne hamari taraf nazil ki aur us cheez per jo usne tumhari taraf nazil ki. Aayat ke akhir tak.
Hazrat Akrama narrates that Hazrat Ibn Abbas said: You people ask the People of the Book about their books while you have the Book of Allah with you, which is the closest of all books to the covenant of Allah. You read the Quran only so that you may not be deceived.
حضرت عکرمہ فرماتے ہیں کہ حضرت ابن عباس نے ارشاد فرمایا : تم لوگ اہل کتاب سے ان کی کتابوں کے متعلق پوچھتے ہو حالانکہ تمہارے پاس خود کتاب اللہ موجود ہے ، جو تمام کتابوں میں اللہ کے عہد کے زیادہ قریب ہے، تم محض اس لیے قرآن پڑھتے ہو کہ دھوکا نہ دے دیا جائے۔
Hazrat Akarma farmate hain keh Hazrat Ibn Abbas ne irshad farmaya: Tum log ehl e kitab se un ki kitaabon ke mutalliq poochte ho halankeh tumhare pass khud kitab Allah mojood hai, jo tamam kitaabon mein Allah ke ahd ke zyada qareeb hai, tum mehza is liye Quran parhte ho keh dhoka na de diya jaye.
Hazrat Abdur Rahman bin Yazid narrates that Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood said: Do not ask the people of the book about anything, for you will either deny the truth or affirm falsehood. Indeed, they will never guide you to the right path. They themselves have gone astray. In the heart of each one of them is a desire that calls him to his religion, just like the desire for wealth.
حضرت عبد الرحمن بن یزید فرماتے ہیں کہ حضرت عبداللہ بن مسعود نے ارشاد فرمایا : تم اہل کتاب سے کسی بھی چیز کے متعلق مت پوچھا کرو کہ تم حق بات کو جھٹلا دو گے یا غلط بات کی تصدیق کردو گے۔ بیشک وہ تمہیں ہرگز سیدھی راہ نہیں دکھائیں گے۔ انھوں نے تو خود کو غلط راہ پر ڈالا ہوا ہے۔ ان میں سے ہر ایک کے دل میں خواہش ہے جو اسے اس کے دین کی طرف بلاتی ہے مال کی خواہش کی طرح۔
Hazrat Abdul Rahman bin Yazid farmate hain keh Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood ne irshad farmaya: Tum ahle kitab se kisi bhi cheez ke mutalliq mat poocha karo keh tum haq baat ko jhutla do ge ya ghalat baat ki tasdeeq kar do ge. Beshak woh tumhen hargiz seedhi raah nahi dikhaen ge. Unhon ne to khud ko ghalat raah par dala hua hai. Un mein se har ek ke dil mein khwahish hai jo use us ke deen ki taraf bulati hai maal ki khwahish ki tarah.
