Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 33400
It is narrated on the authority of Abu 'Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote to the people of Kufa, "Verily, it has reached me that the word 'Matras' in Persian means 'safety/protection'. Therefore, if you say 'Matras' to a person who does not understand your language, it will be considered as a pledge of safety/protection."
حضرت ابو عطیہ (رض) سے مروی ہے کہ حضرت عمر (رض) نے کوفہ والوں کو لکھا : بیشک مجھے بتایا گیا ہے کہ لفظ مطرس فارسی میں امان کو کہتے ہیں، اگر تم ایسے شخص کو جو تمہاری زبان نہیں سمجھتا مطرس کہہ دو تو امن شمار ہوگا۔
Hazrat Abu Atiya (RA) se marvi hai keh Hazrat Umar (RA) ne Kufa walon ko likha: Beshak mujhe bataya gaya hai keh lafz mutras Farsi mein aman ko kehte hain, agar tum aise shakhs ko jo tumhari zaban nahi samajhta mutras keh do to aman shumar hoga.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ الْعَوَّامِ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَطِيَّةَ قَالَ : كَتَبَ عُمَرُ إِلَى أَهْلِ الْكُوفَةِ أَنَّهُ « ذُكِرَ لِي أَنَّ مطرس بِلِسَانِ الْفَارِسِيَّةِ الْأَمَنَةُ ، فَإِنْ قُلْتُمُوهَا لِمَنْ لَا يَفْقَهُ لِسَانَكُمْ فَهُوَ آمِنٌ »
