What Was Said About Fleeing from Battle

Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 33686
It is narrated on the authority of Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was participating in a battle. When the people started to flee, he said, "I was also among those who fled. While fleeing from the battlefield, we said to each other, 'What should we do now that we are fleeing from the battle and returning deserving of Allah's wrath?' We said, 'Let's go to Medina and spend the night there so that no one sees us.' The narrator says, 'Then when we came to Medina, we said that it would be better if we presented ourselves before the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). If there is room for repentance for us, then we will stay on that. And if there is any other matter besides this, then we will return.' We sat with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) before the Fajr prayer. When you (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came out, we submitted, 'O Messenger of Allah! We are among those who fled from the battle.' You (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) turned towards us and said, 'Rather, you are those who fled and then returned.' The narrator says, 'You (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came near us, so we kissed your hand and submitted, 'O Messenger of Allah! We were also intending to do the same.' You (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, 'I am the helper of the Muslims.'
حضرت عبداللہ بن عمر (رض) سے مروی ہے کہ وہ ایک سریہ میں شریک تھے، لوگوں نے بھاگنے کیلئے چکر لگانا شروع کردیئے فرماتے ہیں کہ میں بھی بھاگنے والوں میں سے تھا، جنگ سے فرار ہوتے وقت ہم نے کہا ہم کیا کریں کہ ہم جنگ سے فرار ہو رہے ہیں اور اللہ کے غضب کے مستحق ہو کر لوٹ رہے ہیں ؟ ہم نے کہا کہ مدینہ چلتے ہیں اور وہاں رات گزارتے ہیں کہ کوئی ہمیں نہ دیکھے، راوی کہتے ہیں کہ پھر جب ہم مدینہ آئے تو ہم نے کہا کہ اگر ہم اپنے آپ کو اللہ کے نبی (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے سامنے پیش کردیں تو بہتر ہے اگر تو ہمارے لیے توبہ کی گنجائش ہے تو ہم اسی پر رہیں اور اگر اس کے علاوہ کوئی اور معاملہ ہے تو ہم واپس چلتے ہیں، ہم رسول اکرم (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے پاس صبح کی نماز سے قبل بیٹھے جب آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) باہر نکلے تو ہم نے عرض کیا اے اللہ کے رسول ! ہم جنگ سے فرار ہونے والوں میں سے ہیں آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) ہماری طرف متوجہ ہوئے اور فرمایا : بلکہ تم بھاگ کر دوبارہ لوٹنے والے ہو، راوی فرماتے ہیں کہ آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) ہمارے قریب ہوئے تو ہم نے آپ کے ہاتھ کو بوسہ دیا اور عرض کیا کہ اے اللہ کے رسول ! ہم بھی اسی طرح کرنے کا ارادہ کر رہے تھے، آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) نے فرمایا : میں مسلمانوں کا مدد گار ہوں۔
Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (RA) se marvi hai keh woh aik sariya mein shareek thay, logon ne bhaagne ke liye chakkar lagana shuru kar diye farmate hain keh main bhi bhaagne walon mein se tha, jang se farar hote waqt hum ne kaha hum kya karen keh hum jang se farar ho rahe hain aur Allah ke ghazab ke mustahiq ho kar laut rahe hain? Hum ne kaha keh Madinah chalte hain aur wahan raat guzarte hain keh koi hamein na dekhe, ravi kehte hain keh phir jab hum Madinah aaye to hum ne kaha keh agar hum apne aap ko Allah ke Nabi (SAW) ke samne pesh kar den to behtar hai agar to hamare liye taubah ki gunjaish hai to hum usi par rahen aur agar is ke ilawa koi aur mamla hai to hum wapas chalte hain, hum Rasul Akram (SAW) ke pass subah ki namaz se pehle baithe jab aap (SAW) bahar nikle to hum ne arz kiya aye Allah ke Rasool! hum jang se farar hone walon mein se hain aap (SAW) hamari taraf mutawajjah huye aur farmaya: balkeh tum bhaag kar dobara lautne wale ho, ravi farmate hain keh aap (SAW) hamare qareeb huye to hum ne aap ke hath ko bosa diya aur arz kiya keh aye Allah ke Rasool! hum bhi isi tarah karne ka irada kar rahe thay, aap (SAW) ne farmaya: main musalmanon ka madad gar hun.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحِيمِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ فِي سَرِيَّةٍ مِنْ سَرَايَا رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَحَاصَ النَّاسُ حَيْصَةً فَكُنْتُ فِيمَنْ حَاصَ قَالَ فَقُلْنَا حِينَ فَرَرْنَا مِنَ الزَّحْفِ : كَيْفَ نَصْنَعُ وَقَدْ فَرَرْنَا مِنَ الزَّحْفِ وَبُؤْنَا بِالْغَضَبِ ، فَقُلْنَا : نَدْخُلُ الْمَدِينَةَ فَنَبِيتُ بِهَا فَلَا يَرَانَا أَحَدٌ ، قَالَ : فَلَمَّا دَخَلْنَا قُلْنَا : لَوْ عَرَضْنَا أَنْفُسَنَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ ، فَإِنْ كَانَتْ لَنَا تَوْبَةٌ أَقَمْنَا ، وَإِنْ كَانَ غَيْرَ ذَلِكَ ذَهَبْنَا ، قَالَ : فَجَلَسْنَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَبْلَ صَلَاةِ الْغَدَاةِ ، فَلَمَّا خَرَجَ قُمْنَا إِلَيْهِ فَقُلْنَا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، نَحْنُ الْفَرَّارُونَ ، قَالَ : فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا فَقَالَ : بَلْ أَنْتُمُ الْعَكَّارُونَ ، قَالَ : فَدَنَوْنَا فَقَبَّلْنَا يَدَهُ وَقُلْنَا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَرَدْنَا أَنْ نَفْعَلَ وَأَنْ نَفْعَلَ ، قَالَ : أَنَا فِئَةُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ .
