كِتَابُ الزُّهْدِ
The Words of the Prophet Moses
كَلَامُ مُوسَى النَّبِيِّ ﵇

It is narrated from Hazrat Ubaid bin Umair that Hazrat Dawood (peace be upon him) prostrated (with weeping and wailing) for so long that the grass around him caught fire (from the moisture of his tears). So Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, revealed to him: "O Dawood (peace be upon him), what do you want? Do you want me to increase your wealth, children and lifespan?" So Hazrat Dawood (peace be upon him) (complained with humility and humbleness) submitted: "O my Lord! (Do you think I am a lover of the world and that I desire the world that) as a result of my long sighs and cries you have given me this answer?" At that very moment Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, forgave him.
حضرت عبید بن عمیر سے مروی ہے کہ حضرت داؤد (علیہ السلام) نے (گریہ وزاری کے ساتھ) اتنا طویل سجدہ فرمایا کہ ان کے آنسوؤں (کی نمی سے) ان کے ارد گرد سبزہ اگ آیا۔ چنانچہ اللہ تبارک وتعالیٰ نے ان کی طرف وحی فرمائی : اے داؤد (علیہ السلام) تم کیا چاہتے ہو ؟ کیا تم چاہتے ہو کہ میں تمہارے مال و اولاد اور عمر میں اضافہ کر دوں۔ تو حضرت داؤد (علیہ السلام) نے (عجزو انکسار کے ساتھ شکوہ کرتے ہوئے) عرض کیا : اے میرے پروردگار ! کیا (آپ کے نزدیک میں دنیا سے محبت کرنے والا اور دنیا کو چاہنے والا ہوں کہ میری طویل آہ وزاری کے نتیجہ میں) آپ نے مجھے یہ جواب دیا ؟ بس اسی وقت اللہ تبارک وتعالیٰ نے ان کی مغفرت فرما دی۔
Hazrat Obaid bin Umair se marvi hai ke Hazrat Dawood (alaihis salaam) ne (geriyaozari ke saath) itna tawil sajda farmaya ke unke aansuon (ki nami se) unke ird gird sabza ug aaya. Chunanche Allah tabaraka wata'ala ne unki taraf wahi farmai: Aye Dawood (alaihis salaam) tum kya chahte ho? Kya tum chahte ho ke main tumhare maal-o-aulad aur umar mein izafa kar dun? To Hazrat Dawood (alaihis salaam) ne (ajz-o-inکسar ke saath shikwa karte huye) arz kiya: Aye mere Parwardigaar! Kya (aapke qareeb mein duniya se muhabbat karne wala aur duniya ko chahne wala hun ke meri tawil aah-o-zari ke nateejay mein) aapne mujhe ye jawab diya? Bas usi waqt Allah tabaraka wata'ala ne unki magfirat farma di.
حَدَّثَنَا ، سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، عَنْ ، حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ، عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ ، عَنْ ، عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ : " أَنَّ دَاوُدَ سَجَدَ حَتَّى نَبَتَ مَا حَوْلَهُ خَضْرَاءُ مِنْ دُمُوعِهِ ، فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ : يَا دَاوُدُ مَا تُرِيدُ ، تُرِيدُ أَنْ أَزِيدَكَ فِي مَالِكَ وَوَلَدِكَ وَعُمْرِكَ ؟ قَالَ : يَا رَبِّ ، هَذَا تُرَدُّ عَلَيَّ ؟ فَغُفِرَ لَهُ "
