كِتَابُ الزُّهْدِ
The Words of Rabi' ibn Khuthaym
كَلَامُ رَبِيعِ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Wa'il, he said that I and my brother went to Hazrat Rabia bin Khutsaim, and he was sitting in the mosque. He said: "What brought you?" We said: "We came so that you may remember Allah, so we may also remember Allah with you, and that you may praise Allah, and we may also praise Allah with you." Thereupon he lifted both his hands and said: "All praise is due to Allah that He did not make you say this. Neither have we come to you so that you may drink wine so we may also drink it with you, nor have we come to you so that you may commit adultery so we may also commit adultery with you."
حضرت ابو وائل سے روایت ہے وہ کہتے ہیں کہ میں اور میرے بھائی حضرت ربیع بن خثیم کے پاس گئے تو وہ مسجد میں بیٹھے ہوئے تھے۔ انھوں نے فرمایا : تمہیں کیا مقصد لایا ہے ؟ ہم نے جواب دیا۔ ہم آئے ہیں تاکہ آپ اللہ کا ذکر کریں تو ہم بھی آپ کے ہمراہ اللہ کا ذکر کریں اور آپ اللہ کی تعریف کریں اور ہم بھی آپ کے ساتھ اللہ کی تعریف کریں۔ اس پر آپ نے اپنے دونوں ہاتھ بلند کیے اور کہا۔ تمام تعریف اس اللہ کی ہے تم سے یہ نہیں کہلوایا۔ ہم تیرے پاس آئے ہیں کہ تو شراب پئے تاکہ ہم بھی تیرے ساتھ پئیں اور نہ ہم تیرے پاس آئے ہیں کہ تم زنا کرو تاکہ ہم تیرے ساتھ زنا کریں۔
Hazrat Abu Wael se riwayat hai woh kehte hain keh main aur mere bhai Hazrat Rabie bin Khathim ke paas gaye tou woh masjid mein baithe hue the. Unhon ne farmaya: Tumhein kya maqsad laya hai? Hum ne jawab diya. Hum aye hain taake aap Allah ka zikr karen tou hum bhi aap ke hamrah Allah ka zikr karen aur aap Allah ki tareef karen aur hum bhi aap ke saath Allah ki tareef karen. Iss par aap ne apne donon haath buland kie aur kaha. Tamaam tareef iss Allah ki hai tum se yeh nahi kehlowaya. Hum tere paas aye hain keh tou sharaab piye taake hum bhi tere saath piyen aur na hum tere paas aye hain keh tum zina karo taake hum tere saath zina karen.
خَلَفُ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ ، عَنْ سَيَّارٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، قَالَ : انْطَلَقْتُ أَنَا وَأَخِي إِلَى الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ ، فَإِذَا هُوَ جَالِسٌ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَقَالَ : « مَا جَاءَ بِكُمْ ؟»، قَالُوا : جِئْنَا لِتَذْكُرَ اللَّهَ فَنَذْكُرَهُ مَعَكَ ، وَتَحْمَدَ اللَّهَ فَنَحْمَدَهُ مَعَكَ ، فَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ فَقَالَ : " الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي لَمْ تَقُولَا : جِئْنَا لِتَشْرَبَ فَنَشْرَبَ مَعَكَ ، وَلَا جِئْنَا لِتَزْنِيَ فَنَزْنِيَ مَعَكَ "
