كِتَابُ الزُّهْدِ
The Words of Rabi' ibn Khuthaym
كَلَامُ رَبِيعِ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ

It is narrated from Hadrat Abdullah bin 'Amr. He said that Hadrat Rabia was asked, "Should we not call a physician for you?" You said, "Give me some respite." Then you thought about it and said, {And 'Aad and Thamud, and the companions of the Rass, and many generations between them. And for each one We have struck parables, and each one We have destroyed utterly.} Then you mentioned the greed of these people for the worldly life and their love for this life. You said, "These people fell ill and some of them were physicians, but neither the one who took the medicine remained nor the one who gave the medicine remained. Both the describer and the described were destroyed. By Allah, do not call a physician for me."
حضرت عبدالملک بن عمیر سے روایت ہے وہ کہتے ہیں کہ حضرت ربیع سے کہا گیا ہم آپ کے لیے حکیم کو نہ بلائیں ؟ آپ نے فرمایا : تم مجھے مہلت دے دو ۔ پھر آپ نے فکر فرمایا تو کہا : { وَعَادًا وَثُمُودَ وَأَصْحَابَ الرَّسِّ وَقُرُونًا بَیْنَ ذَلِکَ کَثِیرًا وَکُلاًّ ضَرَبْنَا لَہُ الأَمْثَالَ وَکُلاًّ تَبَّرْنَا تَتْبِیرًا } پھر آپ نے ان لوگوں کی دنیوی زندگی پر حرص اور اس زندگی کی رغبت ذکر فرمائی۔ فرمایا : یہ لوگ بیمار ہوئے اور کچھ ان میں حکیم تھے لیکن دوائی کھانے والا بھی باقی نہ رہا اور دوائی کھلانے والا بھی باقی نہ رہا۔ صفت کرنے والا اور صفت کیا ہوا دونوں ہلاکت کا شکار ہوئے۔ بخدا ! تم لوگ میرے لیے حکیم کو نہ بلاؤ۔
Hazrat Abdul Malik bin Omair se riwayat hai woh kehte hain ke Hazrat Rabia se kaha gaya hum aap ke liye Hakeem ko na bulaye? Aap ne farmaya: Tum mujhe mohlat de do. Phir aap ne fikar farmaya to kaha: {Waadan wa sumoowa wa ashaabar rasso wa kuroonan baina zalika kaseera wakullan darabna lahu al amthaala wakullan tabarna tatbeera} Phir aap ne in logon ki dunyawi zindagi per haras aur iss zindagi ki ragbat zikar farmai. Farmaya: Yeh log beemar huye aur kuch in mein Hakeem the lekin dawai khane wala bhi baqi na raha aur dawai khilane wala bhi baqi na raha. Sifat karne wala aur sifat kiya hua dono halaakat ka shikaar huye. Bakhuda! Tum log mere liye Hakeem ko na bulao.
عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُحَارِبِيُّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، قَالَ لِلرَّبِيعِ : أَلَا نَدْعُو لَكَ طَبِيبًا ؟ فَقَالَ : « أَنْظِرُونِي »، ثُمَّ تَفَكَّرَ فَقَالَ : " ﴿ وَعَادًا وَثَمُودَ وَأَصْحَابَ الرَّسِّ وَقُرُونًا بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ كَثِيرًا وَكُلًّا ضَرَبْنَا لَهُ الْأَمْثَالَ وَكُلًّا تَبَّرْنَا تَتْبِيرًا ﴾ [ الفرقان : ٣٩ ] "، فَذَكَرَ مِنْ حِرْصِهِمْ عَلَى الدُّنْيَا وَرَغْبَتِهِمْ فِيهَا ، قَالَ : « فَقَدْ كَانَتْ فِيهِمْ أَطِبَّاءُ ، فَلَا الْمُدَاوِي بَقِيَ وَلَا الْمُدَاوَى ، هَلَكَ النَّاعِتُ وَالْمَنْعُوتُ لَهُ ، وَاللَّهِ لَا تَدْعُونَ لِي طَبِيبًا »
