كِتَابُ الزُّهْدِ
The Words of Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz
كَلَامُ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ

It is narrated from Hazrat Ja'far bin Burqan that he said that Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz (رض) wrote a letter. After praising Allah! Verily, some people seek the world through the deeds of the Hereafter, and some storytellers have introduced the innovation of sending blessings on their caliphs and rulers like the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). So when this letter of mine reaches you, then you should order the people to send blessings on the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and other prophets. And pray for the common Muslims and leave the rest.
حضرت جعفر بن برقان سے روایت ہے وہ کہتے ہیں کہ حضرت عمر بن عبدالعزیز (رض) نے خط لکھا۔ اما بعد ! بیشک کچھ لوگ آخرت کے عمل سے دنیا کو تلاش کرتے ہیں اور کچھ قصہ گو لوگوں نے جناب نبی کریم (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کی طرح اپنے خلفاء اور امراء پر درود بھیجنے کی بدعت نکال لی ہے۔ پس جب تمہارے پاس میرا یہ خط آئے تو تو لوگوں کو حکم دے کہ وہ جناب نبی کریم (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) اور دیگر انبیاء پر درود بھیجیں۔ اور عام مسلمان لوگوں کے لیے دعا ہے اور ان کے علاوہ کو چھوڑ دیں۔
Hazrat Jaffar bin Burqan se riwayat hai woh kehte hain ke Hazrat Umar bin Abdul Aziz (RA) ne khat likha. Ama baad ! Beshak kuch log aakhirat ke amal se duniya ko talaash karte hain aur kuch qissa go logon ne Janaab Nabi Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ki tarah apne khulfa aur umara par durood bhejne ki bidat nikaal li hai. Pas jab tumhare pass mera yeh khat aaye to tum logon ko hukum do ke woh Janaab Nabi Kareem (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) aur deegar anbiya par durood bhejen. Aur aam musalman logon ke liye dua hai aur un ke ilawa ko chhor den.
حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ بُرْقَانَ ، قَالَ : كَتَبَ عُمَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ : « أَمَّا بَعْدُ ، فَإِنَّ أُنَاسًا مِنَ النَّاسِ الْتَمَسُوا الدُّنْيَا بِعَمَلِ الْآخِرَةِ ، وَإِنَّ أُنَاسًا مِنَ الْقُصَّاصِ قَدْ أَحْدَثُوا مِنَ الصَّلَاةِ عَلَى خُلَفَائِهِمْ وَأُمَرَائِهِمْ عَدْلَ صَلَاتِهِمْ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ ، فَإِذَا أَتَاكَ كِتَابِي هَذَا ، فَمُرْهُمْ أَنْ تَكُونَ صَلَاتُهُمْ عَلَى النَّبِيِّينَ وَدُعَاؤُهُمْ لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ عَامَّةً ، وَيَدَعُونَ مَا سِوَى ذَلِكَ »
