كِتَابُ الزُّهْدِ
The Words of al-Hasan al-Basri
كَلَامُ الْحَسَنِ الْبَصْرِيِّ

It is narrated from Hazrat Hassan (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: When the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would meet one another, one of them would ask his companion, "Has it reached you that you will enter it?" He would say, "Yes." Then the first one would ask, "Has it also reached you that you will exit from it?" He would say, "No." Upon this, the first one would say, "Then what is the reason for your laughter?"
حضرت حسن سے روایت ہے وہ کہتے ہیں کہ جناب رسول اللہ (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) کے صحابہ کرام (رض) جب باہم ملتے تو ایک آدمی، اپنے ساتھی سے کہتا۔ کیا تمہیں یہ بات پہنچی ہے کہ تم وارد ہوگے۔ وہ کہتا ہے ہاں۔ پھر پہلا پوچھتا۔ کیا تمہیں یہ بات بھی پہنچی ہے کہ تم اس سے خارج ہو ؟ وہ کہتا۔ نہیں۔ اس پر پہلا کہتا۔ تو تب پھر کس بات کی وجہ سے ہنسی ہے ؟ “
Hazrat Hassan se riwayat hai woh kehte hain ke janab Rasool Allah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) ke sahaba kiram (RA) jab baham milte toh aik aadmi apne saathi se kehta kya tumhe yeh baat pohnchi hai ke tum ward honge woh kehta hai haan phir pehla poochta kya tumhe yeh baat bhi pohnchi hai ke tum is se kharij honge woh kehta nahi is par pehla kehta toh tab phir kis baat ki wajah se hansi hai
يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ حُسَيْنٍ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ ، إِذَا الْتَقَوْا يَقُولُ الرَّجُلُ لِصَاحِبِهِ : هَلْ أَتَاكَ أَنَّكَ وَارِدٌ ؟ فَيَقُولُ : نَعَمْ ، فَيَقُولُ : هَلْ أَتَاكَ أَنَّكَ خَارِجٌ مِنْهَا ؟ فَيَقُولُ : لَا ، فَيَقُولُ : فَفِيمَ الضَّحِكُ إِذًا ؟ "
