Ibn Abbas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) did not recite for the Jinns nor did he see them. The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) went out with a group of his Companions towards the Ukaz market. Something had been intervening between the Shayatin and the news from the heavens, and shooting stars has been sent upon them, so the Shayateen returned to their people, and they said to them, ‘what is wrong with you?’ They replied, ‘something has been intervening between us and the news of the heavens except that something has happened. So, travel east and west in the earth and look for what is it that intervenes between you and between the news of the heavens.’ So, they went traveling east and west on the earth, seeking whatever it was that had been intervening between them and the news of the heavens. A group of those who were traveling towards Tihamah headed in the direction of the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), while he was at Nakhlah, enroute to the Ukaz market. He was performing Salat Al-Fajr with his Companions. When they heard the Quran they listened to it, and they said, by Allah, this is what has been intervening between us and the news of the heavens.’ Then they returned to their people and said - [ Indeed, we have heard a wondrous recitation, it guides to the Right Way. We have believed in it, and we shall never join (in worship) anything with our Lord.] (Al-Jinn: 1-2) So Allah, Blessed is He and Most High, revealed to His Prophet – [Say, (O Prophet ﷺ), 'It is revealed to me that a group of Jinns listened (to the Quran) and said (to their fellow jinns): ‘Indeed, we have heard a wondrous recitation. (Al-Jinn - 1). Imam Tirmidhi said, this Hadith is Hasan Sahih. He said, with this chain, from Ibn Abbas ( رضئهللا تعالی عنہ), who said, ‘the jinns said to their people, [ And yet, when the servant of Allah (Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) stood up invoking Him in prayer, they (the jinns) just were around him in a dense crowd (to listen to the Prophet’s ﷺ recitation).] (Al-Jinn - 19). He said, ‘when they saw him performing Salat, and his Companions were performing Salat, and they were prostrating along with his prostrations.’ He said, ‘they were amazed at how his Companions obeyed him, so they said to their people, when the Servant of Allah stood up invoking Him in prayer, they just made round Him a dense crowd as if sticking one over the other.

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی الله عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے نہ قرآن جنوں کو پڑھ کر سنایا ہے اور نہ انہیں دیکھا ہے ۱؎ ( ہوا یہ ہے ) کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ اپنے صحابہ کی جماعت کے ساتھ عکاظ بازار جا رہے تھے، ( بعثت محمدی کے تھوڑے عرصہ بعد ) شیطانوں اور ان کے آسمانی خبریں حاصل کرنے کے درمیان رکاوٹ ڈال دی گئی تھی اور ان پر شعلے برسائے جانے لگے تھے، تو وہ اپنی قوم کے پاس لوٹ گئے، ان کی قوم نے کہا: کیا بات ہے؟ کیسے لوٹ آئے؟ انہوں نے کہا: ہمارے اور آسمان کی خبر کے درمیان دخل اندازی کر دی گئی ہے، آسمانی خبریں سننے سے روکنے کے لیے ہم پر تارے پھینکے گئے ہیں، قوم نے کہا: لگتا ہے ( دنیا میں ) کوئی نئی چیز ظہور پذیر ہوئی ہے جس کی وجہ سے ہمارے اور آسمان کی خبر کے درمیان رکاوٹ کھڑی ہوئی ہے، تم زمین کے مشرق و مغرب میں چاروں طرف پھیل جاؤ اور دیکھو کہ وہ کون سی چیز ہے جو ہمارے اور ہمارے آسمان سے خبریں حاصل کرنے کے درمیان حائل ہوئی ( اور رکاوٹ بنی ) ہے چنانچہ وہ زمین کے چاروں کونے مغربین و مشرقین میں تلاش کرنے نکل کھڑے ہوئے، شیاطین کا جو گروہ تہامہ کی طرف نکلا تھا وہ رسول اللہ ﷺ کے پاس سے گزرا ( اس وقت ) آپ سوق عکاظ جاتے ہوئے مقام نخلہ میں تھے، اور اپنے صحابہ کے ساتھ فجر کی نماز پڑھ رہے تھے، جب انہوں نے قرآن سنا تو پوری توجہ سے کان لگا کر سننے لگے، ( سن چکے تو ) انہوں نے کہا: یہ ہے قسم اللہ کی! وہ چیز جو تمہارے اور آسمان کی خبر کے درمیان حائل ہوئی ہے، ابن عباس رضی الله عنہما کہتے ہیں: یہیں سے وہ لوگ اپنی قوم کی طرف لوٹ گئے، ( وہاں جا کر ) کہا: اے میری قوم! «إنا سمعنا قرآنا عجبا يهدي إلى الرشد فآمنا به ولن نشرك بربنا أحدا» ”ہم نے عجیب و غریب قرآن سنا ہے جو راہ راست کی طرف رہنمائی کرتا ہے ہم اس پر ایمان لا چکے ( اب ) ہم کسی کو بھی اپنے رب کا شریک نہ بنائیں گے“ ( الجن: ۱-۲ ) ، اسی موقع پر اللہ تعالیٰ نے اپنے نبی اکرم ﷺ پر آیت «قل أوحي إلي أنه استمع نفر من الجن» نازل فرمائی، اور آپ پر جن کا قول وحی کیا گیا ۲؎۔
Abdul-Allah bin Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) aa kehte hain ke Rasool-Allah salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam ne na Quran junoon ko parh kar sunaaya hai aur na unhen dekha hai 1؎ (hawa yeh hai) ke Rasool-Allah salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam apne sahaba ki jamaat ke sath Ukaz bazaar ja rahe the (ba'ath-e-Muhammadi ke thode arse baad) shayateen aur un ke aasmani khabrein hasil karne ke darmiyaan rukawat daal di gayi thi aur un par shule barsaye jane lage the, to woh apni qoum ke pas loot gaye, un ki qoum ne kaha: kya baat hai? kaise loot aaye? unhon ne kaha: hamare aur aasmaan ki khabar ke darmiyaan dakhla andazi kar di gayi hai, aasmani khabrein sunne se rokne ke liye hum par tare phenke gaye hain, qoum ne kaha: lagta hai (duniya mein) koi nayi cheez zuhoor pazeer hoi hai jis ki wajah se hamare aur aasmaan ki khabar ke darmiyaan rukawat khadi hui hai, tum zameen ke mashriq o maghrib mein chaaron taraf phail jao aur dekho ke woh kon si cheez hai jo hamare aur hamare aasmaan se khabrein hasil karne ke darmiyaan haail hui (aur rukawat bani) hai chananch woh zameen ke chaaron kone maghribeen o mashriqeen mein talash karne nikal khade hue, shayateen ka jo guru thahama ki taraf nikla tha woh Rasool-Allah salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam ke pas se guzara (is waqt) aap souq Ukaz jaate hue maqam Nakhla mein the, aur apne sahaba ke sath fajr ki namaz padh rahe the, jab unhon ne Quran suna to poori tawajjo se kaan laga kar sunne lage (sun chuke to) unhon ne kaha: yeh hai qasam Allah ki! woh cheez jo tumhare aur aasmaan ki khabar ke darmiyaan haail hui hai, Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) aa kehte hain: yaheen se woh log apni qoum ki taraf loot gaye (wahaan ja kar) kaha: ay meri qoum! «Ina samna Quranan ajaban yahadi ilal rushdi fa aamanu bihi wa lan nashirku bi rabbi na ahada» "hum ne ajib o gharib Quran suna hai jo rah-e-rast ki taraf rehnumai karta hai hum is par emaan la chuke (ab) hum kisi ko bhi apne rab ka shirik na banayenge" (al-jinn: 1.2), isi mauqe par Allah Ta'ala ne apne Nabi Akram salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam par ayat «Qul auhi ilahi annastame'a nafar min al-jinn» nazil farmaayi, aur aap par jinn ka qoul wahi kiya gaya 2؎.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي بِشْرٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا، قَالَ: مَا قَرَأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْجِنِّ وَلَا رَآهُمْ، انْطَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي طَائِفَةٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ عَامِدِينَ إِلَى سُوقِ عُكَاظٍ، وَقَدْ حِيلَ بَيْنَ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ، وَأُرْسِلَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الشُّهُبُ، فَرَجَعَتِ الشَّيَاطِينُ إِلَى قَوْمِهِمْ، فَقَالُوا: مَا لَكُمْ ؟ قَالُوا: حِيلَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ وَأُرْسِلَتْ عَلَيْنَا الشُّهُبُ، فَقَالُوا: مَا حَالَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ إِلَّا أَمْرٍ حَدَثَ، فَاضْرِبُوا مَشَارِقَ الْأَرْضِ وَمَغَارِبَهَا، فَانْظُرُوا مَا هَذَا الَّذِي حَالَ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ، قَالَ: فَانْطَلَقُوا يَضْرِبُونَ مَشَارِقَ الْأَرْضِ وَمَغَارِبَهَا يَبْتَغُونَ مَا هَذَا الَّذِي حَالَ بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ، فَانْصَرَفَ أُولَئِكَ النَّفَرُ الَّذِينَ تَوَجَّهُوا نَحْوَ تِهَامَةَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ بِنَخْلَةَ عَامِدًا إِلَى سُوقِ عُكَاظٍ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي بِأَصْحَابِهِ صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ، فَلَمَّا سَمِعُوا الْقُرْآنَ اسْتَمَعُوا لَهُ، فَقَالُوا: هَذَا وَاللَّهِ الَّذِي حَالَ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ، قَالَ: فَهُنَالِكَ رَجَعُوا إِلَى قَوْمِهِمْ، فَقَالُوا: يَا قَوْمَنَا: إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْءَانًا عَجَبًا 1 يَهْدِي إِلَى الرُّشْدِ فَآمَنَّا بِهِ وَلَنْ نُشْرِكَ بِرَبِّنَا أَحَدًا 2 سورة الجن آية 1-2 فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَى نَبِيِّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: قُلْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّهُ اسْتَمَعَ نَفَرٌ مِنَ الْجِنِّ سورة الجن آية 1 وَإِنَّمَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيْهِ قَوْلُ الْجِنِّ .
