Abu Hurairah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) was asked, Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), what is back-biting? He replied, it is saying something about your brother which he would dislike. He was asked again, tell us how the matter stands if what is said about the brother is true? He replied, if what you say of him is true, you have involved in backbiting and if what you say of him is not true, you have slandered him.

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ عرض کیا گیا: اللہ کے رسول! غیبت کیا ہے؟ آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا: تمہارا اپنے بھائی کا اس طرح ذکر کرنا کہ اسے ناگوار ہو عرض کیا گیا: اور اگر میرے بھائی میں وہ چیز پائی جاتی ہو جو میں کہہ رہا ہوں تو آپ کا کیا خیال ہے؟ آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا: اگر وہ چیز اس کے اندر ہے جو تم کہہ رہے ہو تو تم نے اس کی غیبت کی، اور اگر جو تم کہہ رہے ہو اس کے اندر نہیں ہے تو تم نے اس پر بہتان باندھا ۔
aboohaira (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se riwayat hai ke arz kiya gaya: allah ke rasool! ghaybat kya hai? aap salla allahu alaihi wasallam ne farmaya: tumhara apne bhai ka is tarah zikr karna ke use nagawar ho arz kiya gaya: aur agar mere bhai mein woh cheez payi jati ho jo mein kah raha hoon to aap ka kya khyal hai? aap salla allahu alaihi wasallam ne farmaya: agar woh cheez uske andar hai jo tum kah rahe ho to tum ne uski ghaybat ki, aur agar jo tum kah rahe ho uske andar nahi hai to tum ne us par behtaan bandha.
Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضي الله تعالى عنها) narrated that she said to the Prophet ( صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), it is enough for you in Ummul Momineen Safiyyah (رضي الله تعالى عنها) that she is such and such (the other version than Musaddad's has) meaning that she was short-statured. He replied, you have said a word which would change the sea if it were mixed in it. She said, I imitated a man before him (out of disgrace). He said, I do not like that I imitate anyone even if I should get such and such.’

ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ میں نے نبی اکرم ﷺ سے عرض کیا: آپ کے لیے تو صفیہ رضی اللہ عنہا کا یہ اور یہ عیب ہی کافی ہے، یعنی پستہ قد ہونا تو آپ نے فرمایا: تم نے ایسی بات کہی ہے کہ اگر وہ سمندر کے پانی میں گھول دی جائے تو وہ اس پر بھی غالب آ جائے اور میں نے ایک شخص کی نقل کی تو آپ نے فرمایا: مجھے یہ بات پسند نہیں کہ میں کسی انسان کی نقل کروں اگرچہ میرے لیے اتنا اور اتنا ( مال ) ہو ۔
Umme-ul-Momineen Ayesha ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ا) kehti hain ke main ne Nabi-e-Akram (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) se arz kiya: Aap ke liye to Safiyya ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ا) ka yeh aur yeh aib hi kaafi hai, yani pista qad hona to aap ne farmaya: Tum ne aisi baat kahi hai ke agar woh samandar ke pani mein ghol di jaye to woh is par bhi ghalib a jaye aur main ne ek shakhs ki naqal ki to aap ne farmaya: Mujhe yeh baat pasand nahin ke main kisi insaan ki naqal karoon agarche mere liye itna aur itna (mal) ho.
Sa'id ibn Zayd (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, ‘the most prevalent kind of usury is going to lengths in talking unjustly against a Muslim's honor.’

سعید بن زید رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ نبی اکرم ﷺ نے فرمایا: سب سے بڑی زیادتی یہ ہے کہ آدمی ناحق کسی مسلمان کی بے عزتی کرے ۔
Saeed bin Zaid (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke Nabi-e-Akram (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Sab se bari ziyadti yeh hai ke aadmi nahaq kisi musalman ki be-izzati kare.
Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, the gravest sin is going to lengths in talking unjustly against a Muslim's honor, and it is a major sin to abuse twice for abusing once.

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: بڑے گناہوں میں سب سے بڑا گناہ یہ ہے کہ آدمی ناحق کسی مسلمان کی بے عزتی میں زبان دراز کرے، اور یہ بھی کبیرہ گناہوں میں سے ہے کہ ایک گالی کے بدلے دو گالیاں دی جائیں ۔
Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Bare gunaho mein sab se bara gunaah yeh hai ke aadmi nahaq kisi musalman ki be izzati mein zaban daraz kare, aur yeh bhi kabirah gunaho mein se hai ke ek gali ke badle do galian di jaain.
Anas ibn Malik (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, when I was taken up to heaven, I passed by people who had nails of copper and were scratching their faces and their breasts. I said, who are these people, Jibreel (عليه السالم)? He replied, they are those who were given to back biting and who denigrated people's honor.
Imam Abu Dawood said, Yahya bin 'Uthman has also transmitted this Hadith from Baqiyyah, and there is no mention of Anas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) in it.

انس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: جب مجھے معراج کرائی گئی، تو میرا گزر ایسے لوگوں پر سے ہوا، جن کے ناخن تانبے کے تھے اور وہ ان سے اپنے منہ اور سینے نوچ رہے تھے، میں نے پوچھا: جبرائیل! یہ کون لوگ ہیں؟ کہا: یہ وہ ہیں جو لوگوں کا گوشت کھاتے ( غیبت کرتے ) اور ان کی بے عزتی کرتے تھے ۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: ہم سے اسے یحییٰ بن عثمان نے بیان کیا ہے اور بقیہ سے روایت کر رہے تھے، اس میں انس موجود نہیں ہیں۔
Anas bin Malik (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Jab mujhe Miraj karai gayi, to mera guzra aise logoon par se hua, jin ke nakhoon tanbe ke the aur woh in se apne munh aur seenay noch rahe the, main ne poocha: Jibrail! ye kaun log hain? Kaha: Ye woh hain jo logoon ka gosht khate ( ghibbt karte ) aur in ki beizzati karte the. Abudaood kehte hain: Hum se ise Yahiya bin Usman ne bayan kiya hai aur baqi se riwayat kar rahe the, is mein Ins maujood nahi hain.
Abu Barzah Al-Aslami (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, ‘O community of people, who believed by their tongue, and belief did not enter their hearts, do not back-bite Muslims, and do not search for their faults, for if anyone searches for their faults, Allah will search for his fault, and if Allah searches for the fault of anyone, He disgraces him in his house.

ابوبرزہ اسلمی رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: اے وہ لوگو! جو ایمان لائے ہو اپنی زبان سے اور حال یہ ہے کہ ایمان اس کے دل میں داخل نہیں ہوا ہے مسلمانوں کی غیبت نہ کرو اور ان کے عیوب کے پیچھے نہ پڑو، اس لیے کہ جو ان کے عیوب کے پیچھے پڑے گا، اللہ اس کے عیب کے پیچھے پڑے گا، اور اللہ جس کے عیب کے پیچھے پڑے گا، اسے اسی کے گھر میں ذلیل و رسوا کر دے گا ۔
Abu Barzah Aslami (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Aey woh logo! Jo iman laye ho apni zaban se aur hal ye hai ke iman is ke dil mein dakhil nahi huwa hai musalmano ki ghaibat na karo aur un ke ayub ke peeche na paro, is liye ke jo un ke ayub ke peeche pare ga, Allah us ke ayub ke peeche pare ga, aur Allah jis ke ayub ke peeche pare ga, usse usi ke ghar mein zeel o ruswa kar de ga.
Al-Mustawrid (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, if anyone eats once at the cost of a Muslim's honor, Allah will give him a like amount of Jahannam to eat; if anyone clothes himself with a garment at the cost of a Muslim's honor, Allah will clothe him with like amount of Hell; and if anyone puts himself in a position of reputation and show Allah will disgrace him with a place of reputation and show on the Day of Resurrection.

مستورد رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ نبی اکرم ﷺ نے فرمایا: جو شخص کسی مسلمان کا عیب بیان کر کے ایک نوالا کھائے گا تو اس کو اللہ اتنا ہی جہنم سے کھلائے گا، اور جو شخص کسی مسلمان کا عیب بیان کر کے ایک کپڑا پہنے گا تو اللہ اسے اسی جیسا لباس جہنم میں پہنائے گا، اور جو شخص کسی شخص کو شہرت اور ریا کے مقام پر پہنچائے گا تو قیامت کے دن اللہ اسے خوب شہرت اور ریا کے مقام پر پہنچا دے گا ( یعنی اس کی ایسی رسوائی ہو گی کہ سارے لوگوں میں اس کا چرچا ہو گا ) ۔
Mustawrid (رضي الله تعالى عنه) Kehte Hain Ke Nabi Akram (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) Ne Farmaya: Jo Shakhsi Kisi Musalman Ka Aib Bayan Kar Ke Ek Nawala Khayega To Us Ko Allah Itna Hi Jahannum Se Khlayega, Aur Jo Shakhsi Kisi Musalman Ka Aib Bayan Kar Ke Ek Kapda Pahnega To Allah Use Ussi Jaisa Libas Jahannum Mein Pahnayega, Aur Jo Shakhsi Kisi Shakhsi Ko Shahrat Aur Riya Ke Maqam Per Pahunchayega To Qiyamat Ke Din Allah Use Khub Shahrat Aur Riya Ke Maqam Per Pahuncha Dega ( Yani Us Ki Aisi Ruswai Hogi Ke Sare Logon Mein Us Ka Churcha Ho Ga ) .
Abu Hurairah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, everything of a Muslim is sacred to a Muslim, his property, honor and blood. It is enough evil for any man to despise his Muslim brother Muslim.

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: مسلمان کی ہر چیز اس کا مال، اس کی عزت اور اس کا خون دوسرے مسلمان پر حرام ہے، اور آدمی میں اتنی سی برائی ہونا ہی کافی ہے کہ وہ اپنے مسلمان بھائی کو حقیر سمجھے ۔
Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) kehte hain ke Rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: Musalman ki har cheez is ka maal, is ki izzat aur is ka khoon doosre musalman par haram hai, aur aadmi mein itni si burai hona hi kaafi hai ke woh apne musalman bhai ko haqir samjhe.
