The Hadith of Abu Zaid al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him)

حَدِيثُ أَبِي زَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 20732

Abu Zaid Ansari narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me, "Come close to me." I came close, then he said, "Put your hand in (my clothes) and touch my back." So I put my hand inside the Prophet's (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) shirt and moved it on his blessed back, then I felt the seal of Prophethood between my two fingers which was like a cluster of hair.

حضرت ابوزید انصاری فرماتے ہیں کہ نبی ﷺ نے مجھ سے فرمایا میرے قریب آؤ میں قریب ہوا تو فرمایا اپنے ہاتھ کو ڈال کر میری کمر کو چھو کر دیکھو چنانچہ میں نے نبی ﷺ کی قیمص میں ہاتھ ڈال کر پشت مبارک پر ہاتھ پھیرا تو مہر نبوت میری دو انگلیوں کے درمیان آگئی جو بالوں کا ایک گچھا تھی۔

Hazrat Abuzaid Ansari farmate hain ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne mujh se farmaya mere qareeb aao mein qareeb hua to farmaya apne hath ko daal kar meri kamar ko chhu kar dekho chunancha mein ne Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki qamees mein hath daal kar pusht mubarak par hath phehra to mohr e nabuwat meri do ungliyon ke darmiyan aa gai jo baalon ka ek guccha thi.

حَدَّثَنَا حَرَمِيُّ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عَزْرَةُ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عِلْبَاءُ بْنُ أَحْمَرَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زَيْدٍ ، قَالَ: قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" اقْتَرِبْ مِنِّي"، فَاقْتَرَبْتُ مِنْهُ، فَقَالَ" أَدْخِلْ يَدَكَ، فَامْسَحْ ظَهْرِي"، قَالَ: فَأَدْخَلْتُ يَدِي فِي قَمِيصِهِ، فَمَسَحْتُ ظَهْرَهُ، فَوَقَعَ خَاتَمُ النُّبُوَّةِ بَيْنَ إِصْبَعَيَّ، قَالَ: فَسُئِلَ عَنْ خَاتَمِ النُّبُوَّةِ؟ فَقَالَ: " شَعَرَاتٌ بَيْنَ كَتِفَيْهِ" .

It is narrated from Abu Zaid that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me, "Come close to me." Then he rubbed his blessed hand over my head and beard and prayed, "O Allah, grant him beauty and grace and make his beauty lasting." The narrator says that Abu Zaid lived to be over a hundred years old, but only a few hairs on his head and beard were white, and until his last breath, he always had a smile on his face and a look of contraction was never seen on his face.

حضرت ابوزید سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ نے مجھ سے فرمایا میرے قریب آؤ پھر میرے سر اور داڑھی پر اپنا دست مبارک پر پھیرا اور یہ دعا کی کہ اے اللہ اسے حسن و جمال عطا فرما اور اس کے حسن کو دوام عطا فرما۔ راوی کہتے ہیں کہ حضرت ابوزید کی عمر سو سال سے بھی اوپر ہوئی لیکن ان کے سر اور ڈارھی کے چند بال ہی سفید تھے اور آخردم تک وہ ہمیشہ مسکراتے ہی رہے اور کبھی ان کے چہرے پر انقباض کی کیفیت نہیں دیکھی گئی۔

Hazrat Abuzaid se marvi hai keh nabi sallallaho alaihe wasallam ne mujh se farmaya mere qareeb aao phir mere sar aur darhi par apna dast mubarak phair aur yeh dua ki keh aye Allah ise husn o jamal ata farma aur is ke husn ko dawaam ata farma. Ravi kehte hain keh Hazrat Abuzaid ki umar sau saal se bhi upar hui lekin un ke sar aur darhi ke chand baal hi safeed the aur aakhir dam tak woh hamesha muskuraate hi rahe aur kabhi un ke chehre par inqibaz ki kefiyat nahi dekhi gai.

حَدَّثَنَا حَرَمِيُّ بْنُ عُمَارَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَزْرَةُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عِلْبَاءُ بْنُ أَحْمَرَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ، قَالَ: قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" ادْنُ مِنِّي"، قَالَ: فَمَسَحَ بِيَدِهِ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ وَلِحْيَتِهِ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ قَالَ: " اللَّهُمَّ جَمِّلْهُ، وَأَدِمْ جَمَالَهُ"، قَالَ: فَلَقَدْ بَلَغَ بِضْعًا وَمِائَةَ سَنَةٍ وَمَا فِي رَأْسِهِ وَلِحْيَتِهِ بَيَاضٌ، إِلَّا نَبْذٌ يَسِيرٌ، وَلَقَدْ كَانَ مُنْبَسِطَ الْوَجْهِ، وَلَمْ يَنْقَبِضْ وَجْهُهُ حَتَّى مَاتَ .

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 20734

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Zaid Ansari that on the day of Eid al-Adha, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was passing between our houses when he smelled meat being roasted. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, "Who has slaughtered the animal?" One of us came out and said, "O Messenger of Allah, eating on this day is a must, so I have also slaughtered my animal so that I may eat it myself and feed my neighbors." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Sacrifice again." He said, "By the Being, besides Whom there is no other deity, I have only a six-month-old kid or a pregnant goat." He repeated this sentence three times. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "You may sacrifice that, but it will not suffice for anyone after you.”

حضرت ابوزید انصاری سے مروی ہے کہ عیدالاضحی کے دن نبی ﷺ ہمارے گھروں کے درمیان سے گذر رہے تھے کہ آپ کو گوشت بھونے جانے کی خوشبو محسوس ہوئی نبی ﷺ نے پوچھا کہ یہ کس نے جانور ذبح کیا ہے ہم میں سے ایک آدمی نکلا اور عرض کیا یا رسول اللہ اس دن کھانا ایک مجبوری ہوتا ہے سو میں نے بھی اپنا جانور ذبح کرلیا تاکہ خود بھی کھاؤں اور اپنے ہمسایوں کو بھی کھلاؤں نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا کہ قربانی دوبارہ کرو اس نے کہا اس ذات کی قسم جس کے علاوہ کوئی اور معبود نہیں میرے پاس تو بکری کا ایک چھ ماہ کا بچہ ہے یا حمل ہے۔ اس نے یہ جملہ تین مرتبہ کہا تو نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا کہ تم اسی کو ذبح کرلو لیکن تمہارے بعد یہ کسی کی طرف سے کفایت نہیں کرسکے گا۔

Hazrat Abuzaid Ansari se marvi hai ki Eid-ul-Adha ke din Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) humare gharon ke darmiyan se guzar rahe the ki aap ko gosht bhoone jaane ki khushbu mehsoos hui Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne pucha ki ye kis ne janwar zibah kiya hai hum mein se ek aadmi nikla aur arz kiya Ya Rasul Allah is din khana ek majboori hota hai so main ne bhi apna janwar zibah kar liya taake khud bhi khao aur apne hamsayon ko bhi khilaoon Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya ki qurbani dobara karo usne kaha is zaat ki qasam jis ke ilawa koi aur mabood nahi mere pas to bakri ka ek chhe mah ka bachcha hai ya hamil hai isne ye jumla teen martaba kaha to Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya ki tum isi ko zibah karlo lekin tumhare baad ye kisi ki taraf se kafaayat nahi kar sake ga.

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ بُجْدَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي زَيْدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ، قَالَ: مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَ أَظْهُرِ دِيَارِنَا، فَوَجَدَ قُتَارًا، فَقَالَ:" مَنْ هَذَا الَّذِي ذَبَحَ؟" قَالَ فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ مِنَّا، فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، كَانَ هَذَا يَوْمًا الطَّعَامُ فِيهِ كَرِيهٌ، فَذَبَحْتُ لِآكُلَ، وَأُطْعِمَ جِيرَانِي، قَالَ:" فَأَعِدْ"، قَالَ: لَا، وَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ، مَا عِنْدِي إِلَّا جَذَعٌ مِنَ الضَّأْنِ، أَوْ حَمَلٌ، قَالَهَا ثَلَاثَ مِرَاتٍ، قَالَ:" فَاذْبَحْهَا، وَلَا تُجْزِئُ جَذَعَةٌ عَنْ أَحَدٍ بَعْدَكَ" .
